Investing in key infrastructure

After nearly a year of operation, the occupancy rate of ICT1 building in Da Nang Software Park No. 2 (Hai Chau ward) has reached 75%, with more than 30 technology companies and innovative startups having offices there. Recently, Marvell Vietnam Technology Co., Ltd. - a strategic partner of Da Nang city - opened its office on the 7th floor of ICT1 building.

In the near future, the 22-story ICT building will become operational, serving as the initial headquarters of the Vietnam International Finance Center in Da Nang. The city also plans to soon put into operation the 8-story ICT building 2, which is expected to attract 6,000 workers to the Software Park No. 2.

Dr. Le Quang Dam, General Director of Marvell Vietnam Technology Co., Ltd., said that upon returning to Vietnam 12 years ago and having the opportunity to work in Da Nang for a short time, he quickly recognized the city's enormous development potential, especially in the semiconductor sector. To date, Marvell's office in Da Nang operates stably, with modern infrastructure that allows the company to invest and develop confidently in the long term. Through this, the company aims to contribute to expanding the semiconductor ecosystem, training high-quality human resources, promoting innovation, and jointly building a high-tech future for Da Nang.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Da Nang has the highest number of established and expanded concentrated information technology zones in the country, with 3 IT zones: Da Nang Software Park (2 Quang Trung and 15 Quang Trung, Hai Chau Ward); Da Nang Concentrated Information Technology Zone - Phase 1; andFPT Office Complex (Ngu Hanh Son Ward).

In addition, the second Software Park continues to be completed; construction of the high-tech software building of the Viettel Military Telecommunications and Industry Group will commence on July 1, 2025. The city is also continuing to promote investment in the Hoa Xuan Ward Creative Space project and the Da Nang Bay Information Technology Park project.

Regarding data centers, the city has initiated and commenced construction on two regional-scale data centers in the Da Nang High-Tech Park. These include: the International Data Center (IDC) with a capacity of 1,000 racks and 18MW, with a total investment of nearly 800 billion VND by the International Data Center Joint Stock Company; and the AIDC DeCenter of the Global Telecommunications and Infrastructure Group (IPTP Networks), with a capacity of 1,000 racks, 10MW, and a total investment of 200 million USD. To date, the city has seven data centers. It is expected that in the first quarter of 2026, Viettel Group will begin construction on a 1,000-rack data center with a total investment of 2,200 billion VND.

Seamless connection

Besides the Hoa Hai onshore fiber optic cable station, a crucial national international fiber optic transmission hub comprising the existing SMW3 and APG cable lines, Viettel Group is investing in an onshore fiber optic cable station at Tan Tra beach (Ngu Hanh Son ward). This is Vietnam's sixth international submarine fiber optic cable, connecting with many countries in the region such as East Asia, with a total capacity of up to 18,000Gbps, playing a key role in digital connectivity infrastructure.

In addition, in August 2025, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) will launch the VSTN international terrestrial cable system – a transmission line entirely on land, over 3,900km long, connecting Da Nang to major data centers in the ASEAN region. This is the first cable line that is 100% owned by Vietnamese people.

According to the latest data from the i-Speed internet platform of the Vietnam Internet Center - VNNIC (Ministry of Science and Technology), Da Nang has been the leading locality in 5G network access speed from January 2025 to the present. Currently, the city's metropolitan area network (MAN) has a total length of nearly 400km of underground fiber optic cable, expanding connectivity to 195 agencies and units, and is continuing to be upgraded.

The city has approximately 300 active free public Wi-Fi hotspots, and around 1,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots deployed by businesses in areas such as airports, train stations, hospitals, and medical centers. In addition, the Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure is beginning to form and develop with 20 wireless transmission stations using LoRa technology (low energy, wide coverage). Viettel Group has put into operation its IoT infrastructure with 208 Nb-IoT stations.

Regarding energy infrastructure development, the Department of Industry and Trade has developed and submitted a draft plan for implementing the revised Power Development Plan VIII in the city; and collaborated with HP Global Digital Connection Joint Stock Company to install solar power systems (100% free of charge) for schools and residential areas in mountainous, remote, and disadvantaged regions, initially implementing the first phase at 3 locations in Tra Tap commune with nearly 300 households.

According to Tran Ngoc Thach, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, the World Bank has reported on the link between broadband internet access speed and gross domestic product (GDP) growth: doubling broadband speed can boost GDP growth by an additional 0.3%. Therefore, diversifying, improving the quality and stability of Vietnam's internet network in general, and Da Nang city's in particular, creates an important foundation for the development of national digital infrastructure, meeting the needs of digital transformation at both the central and local levels, and ensuring the smooth provision of online public services when implementing the two-tiered government model.

The City People's Committee has issued Plan No. 80 dated September 9, 2025, on the development of digital infrastructure in the city for the period 2025-2030; developed a technical plan for the city-wide WAN network system; and approved the policy for 22 infrastructure and platform projects to register for central government investment capital… This ensures the improvement of connection speed and quality, and the development of digital infrastructure for socio-economic development.
