The financial benefits from winning the Spanish King's Cup are quite modest for Barca.

According to Sport , the 2024/25 Spanish King's Cup has one of the lowest prize money compared to other prestigious tournaments in the top 5 European leagues this season. The number becomes small when compared to the FIFA Club World Cup or Champions League.

It is not even as good as a win for Barcelona in the Champions League knockout stages. In the Champions League, Barcelona can collect around 100 million euros in prize money if they reach the final. The La Liga champions this season will also receive a bonus of more than 60 million euros.

Why is there such a big difference in prize money between the Copa del Rey and other tournaments? Media and commercial appeal are only part of the story. Since the Spanish Football Federation changed its format, the prize money for the entire tournament is distributed to all participating teams, not just the two finalists.

The revenue from the Copa del Rey television rights is around 33 million euros per season. This money is divided into several streams. First, 90% goes to professional football (around 29.5 million euros), the remaining 10% goes to amateur and semi-professional teams participating in the tournament (more than 3 million euros).

Of the 29.5 million euros for professional football, 90% goes to La Liga clubs and 10% to Segunda Division clubs. This leaves around 26.5 million euros for the 20 La Liga teams.
