(Dan Tri) - Many carps, catfish, and tra fish weighing 19-20kg were caught by people at the foot of Tri An reservoir dam when this hydroelectric plant stopped releasing water through the spillway.
After 2 weeks of flood discharge, at noon on August 25, Tri An Lake closed its flood discharge gates. Hundreds of people from Vinh Cuu district and neighboring areas flocked to the foot of Tri An Lake dam to catch "giant" fish such as catfish, catfish, sesame, and climbing perch... According to Mr. Le Van Phat (Ma Da commune, Vinh Cuu district), every time Tri An hydropower plant releases flood water, fish from downstream follow the water upstream to the dam, and when they hit the spillway, they gather here. So when the dam stopped spilling, many people in the surrounding area came to catch fish. At exactly 1:00 p.m., as soon as the spillway of Tri An hydroelectric plant (Vinh Cuu district, Dong Nai ) closed its floodgates, the water was still flowing under the spillway, hundreds of people waiting on both banks rushed into the middle of the water. They moved on small boats, on homemade buoys, holding nets and fishing rods, hastily choosing a favorable position and then casting nets and casting nets. According to records, this year the police force of Vinh An Town (Vinh Cuu District) has banned people from using electric shock to catch fish. The number of people coming to watch is also larger than every year. Most people participating in catching fish go in groups, the main purpose is for fun. "The group has 3 brothers living nearby, participating in fishing for fun because there is only one season a year. The brothers cook the fish or make a party meal," Phat shared. There are also many groups of fishermen who catch fish to sell to traders. The fishing atmosphere is very exciting. Each group chooses a different area of water to cast their nets. Previously, on August 10, due to the lake water level exceeding the flood level, while the water flow into the lake was high, reaching 1,200m3/s. Therefore, Tri An Hydropower Company released water through the spillway to regulate the reservoir. A group of Vinh Dien town residents swam across the rocky area to cast their nets. According to the residents, the rocky area often has many big fish. After more than 30 minutes of fishing, two people caught a fish weighing more than 10kg. Many traders were waiting on the shore to buy the "huge" fish caught by people at the foot of Tri An dam. The smile of a local who caught a big carp weighing about 3-4kg. As the largest hydroelectric project in the Southern region, Tri An Hydroelectric Plant not only contributes greatly to the national grid, but also helps regulate water sources for daily life, production, repelling salinity and regulating floods for the downstream area. Tri An Hydroelectric Plant was inaugurated and put into use in 1991. Currently, the plant has four units, with a total designed capacity of 400MW. It is expected that by the first quarter of 2025, Tri An Hydroelectric Plant will put two more units with a capacity of 200MW into operation.
