Inadequate garbage collection points near residential areas

In Duc Xuan Ward and Bac Kan Ward, there are currently 16 main locations for collecting household waste managed by the Agricultural Extension and Environment Branch of Region 11. These locations are arranged to serve the daily garbage collection needs of the people. However, recently, many households living near some garbage collection points have continuously reported the pollution situation, directly affecting the daily life and urban landscape.

Garbage collection points cause pollution, loss of urban beauty and affect traffic.

Tran Hung Dao Street, Bac Kan Ward, has been marked as a civilized urban road for a long time. But right at the beginning of this road, near the Cau Can area, there is a garbage collection point causing pollution.

Mr. Bui Van Dong, in group 5A (Bac Kan ward), has a piece of land next to this collection point that he has rented out for business purposes. But after only a few months, the tenants have returned the premises one by one. The reason is that the garbage collection point often emits an unpleasant smell, especially on sunny days.

According to the representative of the Provincial Center for Agricultural Extension and Environment, the system of garbage collection points in Duc Xuan ward and Bac Kan ward is arranged according to the plan, ensuring convenience for people and collection vehicles. However, at some points, sanitation work is not thorough or people throw garbage in the wrong place, causing a lot of garbage to accumulate, causing unsightliness.

Ms. Dao Thi Lan, a resident of group 5A, whose house is next to the garbage collection point on Kon Tum street, Bac Kan ward, said that many people from other areas bring garbage here to litter.

Faced with this situation, Duc Xuan Ward and Bac Kan Ward have received opinions from residents and considered adjusting some garbage collection points. Ms. Ta Thi Lan Anh, Vice Chairwoman of Duc Xuan Ward People's Committee, said: There are some points that residents have complained about many times because of pollution. The Ward also wants to move to another location, but there are still difficulties in land funds.

The pile of garbage next to people's houses has not been cleaned up.

Mr. Dang Kim Dung, Deputy Director of Bac Kan Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company, said: The unit has increased reminders for teams to clean up the collection points after collecting waste, and at the same time stepped up propaganda so that people can throw away waste on time and in the right place.

However, according to Ms. Nong Thi Thanh, Vice Chairwoman of Bac Kan Ward People's Committee, finding new locations for garbage collection points is not simple. "In the inner city area, there is little land, it is difficult to find a place that is both far from residential areas and convenient for garbage collection. We will continue to coordinate with Duc Xuan Ward to find the optimal solution" - Ms. Thanh informed.

While waiting for the optimal solution, localities are focusing on immediate solutions: increasing sanitation, deodorizing hot spots and mobilizing people to raise awareness of protecting the common environment. Because, no matter how hard the State and environmental agencies try, if people do not comply with regulations, the pollution situation will still be difficult to completely resolve.
