| Farmers in Phu Luong commune head to the fields to prepare the land immediately after harvesting the spring rice crop. |
The spring crop of 2026 recorded many positive results, with the province's total grain production estimated at nearly 299,000 tons. In the southern localities of the province, thanks to planting within the correct timeframe and promoting mechanization in harvesting, many spring rice fields have been harvested. Immediately after harvesting, farmers focused on cleaning the fields, preparing the land, and getting the necessary conditions ready for planting the summer crop according to the schedule.
In Phu Luong commune, the locality aims to plant 1,202 hectares of rice, striving to achieve a yield of approximately 6,490 tons. The commune government is proactively regulating water resources, mobilizing machinery for land preparation, and guiding people to prepare sufficient seeds and agricultural supplies to be ready for planting when conditions are favorable.
Ms. Bui Thi Binh, residing in Phu Son hamlet, Phu Luong commune, stated: "During the recent spring crop, some rice varieties showed limitations due to their soft stems, making them prone to lodging in unfavorable weather conditions. Therefore, this summer, my family has switched to planting varieties such as Dai Thom and Ngoc Nuong, hoping for stronger growth, better resistance, and higher yields."
The crop season is identified as a crucial production period, contributing nearly 50% of the total agricultural production value for the year. It is estimated that the entire province needs approximately 35,000 tons of fertilizer for production. To meet this demand, the agricultural sector and local authorities are coordinating with supplying businesses to ensure a sufficient and timely supply, while also strengthening inspection and supervision of agricultural input quality, preventing counterfeit and substandard products from circulating in the market.
Mr. Nguyen Ta, Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, informed: The 2026 spring crop achieved many positive results thanks to the close guidance of all levels of government and the people's good implementation of crop varieties, planting schedules, and technical procedures. Based on that, the sector is implementing the summer crop production plan in 92 communes and wards with the main crop structure being rice, corn, and vegetable varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases and adaptable to adverse weather conditions.
In parallel with ensuring the supply of materials for production, the relevant departments also advise farmers to use fertilizers rationally and at the right time to improve efficiency and reduce input costs.
Given the forecast of continued complex weather patterns in 2026, localities are required to coordinate closely with irrigation units to proactively store water in reservoirs and dams, regulate irrigation appropriately, and prepare response plans in case of drought or prolonged heavy rainfall.
With the goal of planting 50,880 hectares of rice and striving to achieve a yield of over 263,000 tons, along with proactive preparation of seeds, materials, water resources, and production organization, localities in the province are focusing on bringing the crop season into the correct timeframe.
Despite numerous challenges from extreme weather and the risk of pest outbreaks, the coordinated efforts between the agricultural sector, local authorities, and the people are creating a favorable foundation for Thai Nguyen to aim for a successful harvest, contributing to the achievement of agricultural development goals in 2026.
