The National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 will officially open on March 16th. Mr. Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province, said that all preparations for the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024, associated with the Ban Flower Festival, have been completed.

The opening art program is one of the impressive highlights of the National Tourism Year 2024. The program consists of three parts: Dien Bien - Land of Legends, Tourism on the Wings of Flight, and Dien Bien - Connecting the Seasons of Flowers, lasting 80 minutes and broadcast live on VTV1, VOV1, and Dien Bien Provincial Radio and Television Station.

Notably, for the first time in the Northwest region in general and Dien Bien in particular, audiences will be able to enjoy an artistic drone light show – a flycam performance combined with the lights of 200 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The performance, featuring symbols of the national map, flying dragons, Dien Bien tourism emblems, airplanes, bauhinia flowers, Muong Thanh fields, the national flag, and symbols of tourist cities, will brilliantly illuminate the opening night.

The National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 will feature 169 activities and events. Of these, Dien Bien province will host 28. Besides the opening ceremony, Dien Bien province has identified the Swallowtail Boat Racing Festival in Muong Lay town; the Dien Bien Cherry Blossom Festival 2024; and the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, held on the morning of May 7th, as typical and characteristic activities that the province will preside over.

Dien Bien is the only province in the Northwest region with an airport connecting to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; it has recently been upgraded and expanded to accommodate A321 aircraft. Mr. Nguyen Minh Phu, Director of the Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that in recent times, Dien Bien has focused on improving transportation infrastructure to facilitate travel for tourists from other provinces and cities. While infrastructure for accommodation, food services, experiential activities, entertainment, sightseeing, and historical sites still faces many challenges, Dien Bien is striving to meet the needs of tourists.

The destination is becoming increasingly attractive.

Since the beginning of March, the number of tourists flocking to Dien Bien has increased dramatically, with thousands visiting daily. It is expected that the number of visitors will continue to rise during the opening of the Dien Bien National Tourism Year and the 2024 Ban Flower Festival. Mr. Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province, expects the Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024 to have a profound and widespread impact not only on tourism but also contribute to the growth of other economic sectors. The media effect will further promote and attract investment capital and domestic and international tourists to the province after the program. Dien Bien aims to reach over 1.45 million tourists by 2025, including 300,000 international visitors. Total revenue from tourism activities in 2025 is expected to exceed 2,380 billion VND, increasing by an average of 15% per year, contributing approximately 10% to the province's average GRDP. Dien Bien also hopes to attract many large investors to build more high-end hotels, increasing the total number of rooms to 4,000.

According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, Dien Bien is known as a historical land associated with the Dien Bien Phu victory. Historical relics have been invested in and restored, meeting the needs of numerous tourists who wish to visit and learn about history. Besides this strength, Dien Bien also has rich potential for resort tourism, health care with its system of hot springs, invested homestays, as well as ecotourism, exploring natural landscapes and experiencing the cultural identity of 19 ethnic groups. Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy hopes that through the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 event "The Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experiences," the values ​​and potential of Dien Bien tourism in particular, the Northwest region and Vietnamese tourism in general will be effectively promoted and developed, contributing to realizing the goal of making tourism a key economic sector.

Calling on households with the means to open their doors to tourists.

According to statistics, Dien Bien province currently has 205 tourist accommodation establishments, of which 121 are located in the city and surrounding areas, with 1,839 rooms and 3,430 beds. As of now, hotels and guesthouses in Dien Bien Phu city and Dien Bien district are basically fully booked for the opening ceremony. Mr. Doan Van Chi, Deputy Director of the Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that to ensure tourists have safe accommodation in Dien Bien, the province is calling on households that meet the necessary conditions to open their doors to welcome guests.
