The tragicomic story of artists 'testing' drugs.

TP - Following a series of drug-related scandals involving artists, many celebrities are now taking self-tests at home to clear their names. This wave of artists testing for drugs and the resulting public judgment are revealing ugly aspects of their lives.

Hoang Tien, a once-famous promoter who brought numerous overseas stars back to Vietnam to perform, publicly wrote a short "warning" on social media: "Dear fellow artists! An upright tree doesn't fear the wind. If the audience says this or that about you, don't try to explain yourself to them, and don't take a home urine test to prove anything... Because home urine tests are not accurate. If you want to prove you're healthy... you should learn from the golden voice of Ngoc Son."

Drug testing becomes a viral comedy.

Just by reading impresario Hoang Tien's status update, everyone knows which artist he's referring to. The artist in question had just taken a urine test and exclaimed: "I voluntarily took the test to prove myself like any other citizen. I didn't take a picture of the results after the test; I thought I'd film the whole process live." It was Tuan Hung's live filming of the entire process that caused a stir on social media and provided a good laugh.

Over a thousand shares and countless smiley faces followed a live video of Tuan Hung undergoing a drug test. During the test, the singer of "Hold My Hand " even added a "fart," leaving viewers in disbelief. They couldn't believe that besides his masculine voice, Tuan Hung could also be so unexpectedly carefree. One viewer, speechless, commented: "Oh, our artists!"

Around the world , many famous artists have been involved with or suspected of drug use, but has any artist ever live-streamed a urine test accompanied by "saxophone music" like Tuan Hung of Vietnam? Even after doing all that, many people still refuse to believe the singer of "Hold My Hand. " "I'll only believe it if the police stamp it," one user wrote.

It's not just the audience; even those who have been involved in the entertainment industry for many years are not pleased with Tuan Hung's urine test. Manager Hoang Tien suggested he follow singer-songwriter Ngoc Son's approach – go to the hospital for testing and then proudly show off the results. Hospitals and police forces are ready to facilitate artists in proving their innocence. Why would an artist choose to test at home, which is unreliable and could even become a laughing stock online?

"The diminutive Ngọc Sơn went all the way to the hospital to take a drug test and publicly announced the results."

Following a series of scandals involving artists allegedly using drugs, a new trend has emerged: artists exposing each other's past. After Ngoc Son successfully cleared his name with a hospital test, people shared a comment from another artist on social media: "For 10 years, Brother Ba Ngoc Son hasn't had beer, alcohol, or anything else." This prompted sensitive individuals to recall the past of the singer of "Father's Love." So, what was Ngoc Son like 10 years ago?

Manager Hoang Tien agrees that drug testing in the Vietnamese entertainment industry is currently becoming a joke and lacks seriousness. He believes that recent findings cannot yet clean up the showbiz industry of drug abuse. "That's only a few percent," he said.

Audience member Hoang Linh reacted strongly to singer Tuan Hung's urine test: "That's a trick to distort the truth. You can't prove your innocence by taking a urine test yourself. Audiences aren't as uninformed as he thinks."

Below the post, impresario Hoang Tien also included an article in which a lawyer's opinion asserted that self-testing is only for reference, merely an "initial screening measure," because "a negative result does not necessarily mean there are absolutely no drugs in the body, as the substance can be eliminated over time or the type of drug used may not be on the list of drugs detected by the test kit."

Despite announcing her retirement, Viet Trinh is still being urged by many accounts to take a drug test to prove her innocence.

The author of "Kiep Do Den" (A Life of Gambling), singer Duy Manh, also self-tested for drugs. Interestingly, afterwards, the Hai Phong City Police Department's Criminal Investigation and Drug Crime Unit posted an invitation to take a drug test. The invitation was widely shared online with "haha" emojis. Duy Manh immediately thanked them, saying: "Thank you, comrades! I'm currently in Ho Chi Minh City. I'll take another test tonight when I perform on stage." The author of "Kiep Do Den" promised to come to the Hai Phong City Police Department for another test when the opportunity arises. The authorities responded: "Mr. Manh is trustworthy!" The Hai Phong City Police Department's Criminal Investigation and Drug Crime Unit's page then displayed the status update: "We're waiting for Mr. Manh to return to Hai Phong!"

The recent drug crackdown in the community, and particularly within the Vietnamese entertainment industry, has shown a significant improvement in interaction between law enforcement and the public, becoming closer, more open, and friendly. This is why some law enforcement agencies' pages have gained a large following in a short period of time. Among the followers are many famous artists in the entertainment industry.

They all rushed to attack the artist.

It's not just young artists and celebrities who are getting attention; even those who have announced their retirement to enjoy a peaceful life, do charity work, and raise their children, like "the beauty of Tay Do" Viet Trinh, are being pressured by many accounts to get tested to prove they don't use drugs. Viet Trinh said: "It's funny to think about it. There's no need to make such a fuss about someone who doesn't use drugs. And no one has the right to demand that anyone else get tested except for the authorities."

The suspicion that any artist is involved in drugs is a consequence of these "idols" being dragged into the spotlight, from famous fashion designers, singers, songwriters of hit songs, actors, and singers of innocent, romantic films and songs... But there are those who "take advantage of the situation," seizing the opportunity when public trust is severely shaken, and they attack indiscriminately.

Soobin Hoang Son, the "multitalented prince" with the largest fan base today, is also being mentioned. Apparently, they "uncovered" information that his sister had a history of drug-related issues. If this kind of indiscriminate scrutiny and accusation continues, any artist could become a "target."

In her autobiography, "Golden Oriole and Phoenix," Hoang Thuy Linh admits to having spent long days drowning her sorrows in alcohol, and even facing the temptation of drugs. “One day, when they felt they were close enough to me, they invited me to their house for dinner. Of course, I accepted. But after the meal, in the crowded room, everyone started laying out drugs on the table. I was stunned, staring at the pile of drugs on the table, not knowing how to react. I could drink alcohol, even smoke to ease my sadness, but I would never get involved with drugs,” she wrote.

If Hoang Thuy Linh's autobiography were published at this sensitive time, how many people would believe her claim of "never getting involved with drugs"? They would undoubtedly clamor for the "Banh Troi Nuoc " singer to get tested to prove it. Cultural expert, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong, commented: "The drug tracing campaign in the entertainment industry is both tragic and comical. Tragic because a prominent artist has to take a drug test to prove their integrity. Comical because someone even posted a video of a drug test publicly on their personal page with a negative result, and the public still didn't believe it."

The current situation is heartbreaking for genuine artists. There are accounts publicly lamenting on the Anti-Drug Department's page – Ho Chi Minh City Police – which has a large following of nearly 900,000 people. They lament that no more artists have been "caught." Have those who bring joy and beauty to life ever been treated so cruelly? The downfall of an artist, it turns out, provides amusement for many showbiz gossipmongers.
