Elevated status with the Red River Festival - Lao Cai 2025
With a significantly increased scale of organization, especially when integrated into the activities of the Red River - Lao Cai Festival 2025, the 6th "One track, two countries" International Cycling Race has created great attraction, proven by impressive numbers.
As of November 15, over 200 Vietnamese athletes have registered to participate, confirming that this is one of the most attractive and unique events in the region, where passionate races connect two countries and two cultures.
Since its first season in 2017, the International Cycling Tournament “One Track, Two Countries” has quickly affirmed its position and brand. In 2025, the tournament marked a special milestone when it became an important highlight in the series of events of the Red River Festival.

Mr. Dang Thanh Tung - Deputy Director of Lao Cai Province Sports Training and Competition Center emphasized: The tournament has been maintained by Lao Cai province in coordination with Hong Ha district (China) for 5 seasons. Right from the first tournament in 2017, the tournament has created a great resonance, received and responded enthusiastically by the Vietnamese and Chinese people. This year, the tournament is part of the series of activities of the Red River - Lao Cai Festival 2025, so the meaning of the tournament is greatly enhanced, not only as a sports activity but also as a bridge to promote culture, tourism, and strengthen lasting friendship.
According to the rotation practice, the sixth season in 2025 will be hosted by Hong Ha district, with Lao Cai province playing a coordinating role. Preparations have been carried out methodically since the beginning of the year, ensuring close coordination between relevant units of the two countries.
Lao Cai has widely announced to provinces and cities across the country, creating the best conditions for athletes to register to participate. This close coordination ensures that logistics, especially the cross-border entry and exit control process for athletes, takes place smoothly and safely.
Friendship Wheels
The international cycling race “One track, two countries” will take place over 3 days (November 28-30, 2025) in Lao Cai province (Vietnam) and Hekou district, Honghe prefecture (China). The tournament applies the latest competition rules and regulations issued by the International Cycling Federation, ensuring professionalism and fairness. This year, the tournament continues to compete in 2 categories: Mountain bike racing and road racing.
Accordingly, the off-road racing event will take place on November 29 in Hekou County. Athletes will compete in individual and team events (men and women) with a total distance of 24 km.
The road bike event took place on the morning of November 30, with a unique cross-border race. The total distance is expected to be 80 km, of which about 10 km is in China and 70 km is in Vietnam. The race will start from Bac Son Ethnic Square, Ha Khau District, through Lao Cai International Border Gate and end at Bac Son Administrative Square.
Athletes are divided into age groups: 16 - 35, 36 - 49, 50 - 65 for men and 16 - 39, 40 - 65 for women, to ensure balance in physical strength and competition expertise.
The tournament’s appeal also comes from the determination and passion of the athletes themselves. Although there are still more than ten days to go until the official competition, the athletes’ training and preparation spirit is extremely exciting.

Athlete Giang Thi Chi - Lao Cai Province Sports Training and Competition Center, shared: In the morning, I wake up at 5 am to practice physical training. In the afternoon, I run 60 - 70 km on the road. Such a dense training schedule requires great perseverance. In addition to professional training, I also try to maintain my health to have the best physical strength to participate in the tournament, aiming for the highest achievement to affirm my ability.
Besides young athletes, the tournament also brings together people with the same passion for cycling, regardless of age.
Mr. Pham Van Quang, 62 years old, residing in Lao Cai ward, is a living proof of the ageless spirit of sports.
Mr. Quang shared: I play cycling because of my passion. This year's "One track, two countries" international cycling race is an event associated with the Red River - Lao Cai Festival 2025, so I am much more excited. Every day, I run in the morning and afternoon for 30 - 40 minutes each session to practice technique and physical strength, with the determination to compete throughout the race and achieve high results. This is not only a competition but also an opportunity to exchange and meet friends with the same passion from two countries.

The greatest value of the race lies not only in the competition results, but also in its ability to contribute to strengthening the comprehensive cooperation and friendship between Lao Cai province (Vietnam) and Hong Ha district, Yunnan province (China). The race is a bridge to strengthen solidarity and cultural exchange between the people of the two countries, while actively promoting the image of friendly and hospitable Lao Cai tourism .
Through this event, Lao Cai has the opportunity to promote propaganda, tourism promotion, and local socio-economic development. At the same time, the tournament also contributes to strongly promoting the sports movement in the province, especially the development of cycling.

With careful preparation, a spirit of close cooperation and the enthusiastic participation of hundreds of athletes, the 6th International Cycling Race "One Track, Two Countries" in 2025 promises to be a brilliant sporting event, leaving a deep impression on athletes and visitors from all over the world.
