Speaking at Abu Dhabi Financial Week, Bill Gates stated that AI is currently "the most important thing happening," amid a surge in investment in the sector and a series of consecutive deals that have made the market sensitive. However, he argued that this does not guarantee that every highly valued company will win.
“The race will be fierce,” Gates said. He described AI as “a bubble” in the sense that not all valuations increase over time. Nevertheless, the billionaire asserted that AI remains a very profound technology with the potential to reshape the world .
Many AI companies are now valued at levels far above the market average. Palantir and Tesla have P/E ratios, the ratio of stock price to earnings per share, above 200, compared to around 25 for companies in the S&P 500. Global markets experienced a downturn in November as concerns about a tech bubble increased.
Gates believes that a significant portion of these companies will have no real value in the long term. However, he maintains that AI will bring about positive and far-reaching change.
"No one should doubt the benefits that AI can bring, from healthcare and education to agriculture ," said Bill Gates.

Accordingly, 2026 is predicted to be a critical period for global health . In early December, the Gates Foundation, along with international leaders and philanthropists, pledged $1.9 billion to combat polio. This support aims to provide vaccines for millions of children and strengthen healthcare systems, contributing to the prevention of other epidemics.
He said that many new AI applications will be deployed in the coming year, particularly in Africa, to help improve healthcare there.
"We will be experimenting with a range of AI tools, from virtual doctors to assistants that support African dialects," Gates emphasized.
