Bo Trach: Exciting Son River carp fishing competition

(QBĐT) - As part of a series of activities to celebrate the Liberation Day of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification Day on April 30th and International Labor Day on May 1st, on the afternoon of April 28th, in Phong Nha town, the People's Committee of Bo Trach district organized a competition for Son River carp.

The Organizing Committee awarded first and second prizes in the banana cutting competition.

The competition consists of three parts: a competition for cutting bananas to feed the fish; a competition for the largest and most beautiful fish; and a competition for preparing dishes from fish.

In the banana-cutting competition for fish feed, teams from Hung Trach commune, Lien Trach commune, and Phong Nha town participated. Each team, consisting of 3 athletes, competed in cutting bananas within 10 minutes. The results showed Phong Nha town winning first place, Hung Trach commune second place, and Lien Trach commune third place.

The Organizing Committee awarded first, second, third, and consolation prizes for the competition of large and beautiful carp.

In the competition for the largest and most beautiful carp, five teams from five residential areas in Phong Nha town participated. Each team selected one large, beautiful, live, and healthy carp and placed it in a glass tank. The competition organizers then weighed and scored the fish. The winning team was the one with the brightest, healthiest fish, free from deformities or abnormalities, with intact fins, tail, back, and belly; a well-proportioned head, body, and tail; and the highest total score.

As a result, first prize went to the Xuan Tien residential group team, second prize to the Xuan Son residential group team, and third prize to the Na residential group team.

The teams competed in cutting bananas to use as fish food.

Regarding the cooking competition, there were 4 participating teams from Hung Trach commune, Lien Trach commune, Phong Nha town, and Phong Nha-Ke Bang Tourism Center. Each team had to prepare 3 delicious dishes from carp, display them at the banquet table, present their dishes, and the competition organizers would judge and select the most visually appealing and outstanding dishes.

As a result, first prize went to the Phong Nha town team, second prize to Hung Trach commune, and third prize to the Phong Nha-Ke Bang Tourism Center.

The Son River Carp Competition in Bo Trach district is a practical activity that creates a playground for carp farmers in the Son River basin. It also serves to promote the image and cultural identity of the people in the Bo Trach river region, introduce carp products to tourists, and gradually build a brand and expand the market for Son River carp products.
