On the occasion of the New Year, many people visited the Ground Seoul exhibition hall in Insa-dong, central Seoul (South Korea), to try their luck with ShamAIn, a fortune-telling and fortune-telling system based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

According to Hankook Ilbo on January 31, ShamAIn is a product that provides fortune telling and fortune telling services using AI by a research team led by Professor Nam Taek-jin working at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
On the outside, ShamAIn is arranged in a small hermitage, large enough to accommodate one person, inside there is an altar fully furnished with everything usually found in a place where a shaman practices.
As the person seeking fortune-telling entered information into the tablet placed on the altar and sat down on the cushion, a gentle voice belonging to a middle-aged woman rang out: "I am an existence beyond human understanding. What I know far exceeds your knowledge and I see the future. Please ask if you have any questions."
The KAIST team said the AI temple provides fortune-telling and fortune-telling services based on traditional Shamanic concepts.
The fortune teller enters his/her name, date of birth and occupation and ShamAIn will give a specific answer.
According to the research team, many people initially approached ShamAIn out of curiosity, but later found they could share their private concerns during the fortune-telling process.
Professor Nam said his team focuses on the goal of training super-intelligent AI wizards who can interact with humans.
“We found that AI has the potential to act not just as a tool but as an entity that can influence human judgment and emotion,” the professor said.
ShamAIn is not the first AI shaman to launch in South Korea. There are many AI-based fortune-telling services in the country that have attracted a lot of attention from young people in the ginseng country.
In addition to using personal information, some services also rely on data on blood type, physiognomy, and personality traits of the person seeking fortune telling to predict their fate.
