Ho Chi Minh City football is heavily reliant on foreign players.

The two football representatives from Ho Chi Minh City participating in this season's V-League, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC and Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC, have been inconsistent due to their over-reliance on foreign players.

The Ho Chi Minh City Police Club needs a contingency plan.

Ho Chi Minh City Police FC had a smooth start to the season, consistently ranking among the top four teams in the V-League, but their performance has gradually declined, with one draw and two losses in their last three matches. Meanwhile, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC, despite being considered a relegation candidate after losing their first four matches of the season, is gradually improving after changing their head coach.

Losing to Hai Phong FC in Round 9 of the V-League on November 1st, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC not only suffered their first home defeat of the season but also dropped to 5th place in the standings. This was also the second consecutive loss for coach Le Huynh Duc's team.

Previously, the team playing at Thong Nhat Stadium was undefeated at home, achieving surprising results against formidable opponents and consistently ranking among the top three teams in the league. The improved performance of the Ho Chi Minh City Police FC depends on its high-quality foreign players, spread across all three lines, including center-back Matheus Felipe, midfielder Endrick Dos Santos, and striker Raphael Utzig.

However, in the last three winless matches, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC has lost its stability thanks to its foreign players. In the two losses against Hanoi Police FC and Hai Phong FC, the Ho Chi Minh City team only had one foreign player in the starting lineup, causing the team's tactical system to become less smooth.

With many key players sidelined due to injuries, coach Le Huynh Duc had to rely on young, inexperienced players. Lacking suitable players, the tactics of the Ho Chi Minh City Police FC were disrupted, resulting in a weak attack and poor defense, leading to two consecutive defeats.

Commenting on the team's inconsistent performance, coach Le Huynh Duc attributed it to the club's lack of suitable backup plans to cope with the absence of foreign players or key players. "The absence of foreign players has made the team's playing style difficult. The attack has missed many opportunities, while the defense lacks cohesion and makes mistakes that opponents can exploit. We will learn from this experience and improve our performance for the upcoming matches," he emphasized.

Becamex Ho Chi Minh City is gradually rising to prominence.

While their city rivals were experiencing a dip in form, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC achieved many positive results. The team from Binh Duong unexpectedly defeated the reigning champions Nam Dinh and drew with Ninh Binh FC – the league leaders.

After a resounding victory against Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC in their V-League opening match, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC suffered four consecutive defeats. This disastrous result led to coach Nguyen Anh Duc's resignation, handing over the "hot seat" to Dang Tran Chinh.

Under the guidance of this veteran strategist, the team at Go Dau Stadium quickly transformed its image, unlocking the potential of its foreign players and experienced domestic players. In the last four rounds, Becamex TP HCM secured one win and two draws. Notably, they delivered an impressive performance in round 9 on November 1st, drawing 1-1 with Ninh Binh FC right in the ancient capital of Hoa Lu.

From being a relegation candidate, consistently languishing in the bottom two, Becamex TP HCM has risen to 9th place with 8 points. Coach Dang Tran Chinh is delighted as the foreign players are increasingly adapting and integrating into the team's overall playing style. The Nigerian striker duo, Ugochukwu Ogbonnaya Oduenyi (4 goals) and Origbaajo Ismaila (1 goal), have both rediscovered their scoring touch and regained their peak form.
