Brazil U20 vented their anger on their opponents.
After their loss to Italy, the Brazilian U20 team only had to face the Dominican Republic, a team considered an "easy points" in Group D.
Against a much weaker opponent, "Little Selecao" used a reserve squad but still dominated the game for the entire 90 minutes with 59% possession and 38 shots. All the Dominican Republic managed was one shot on target that was saved by the goalkeeper in the second half.
The Dominican Republic's numerous defenders only held out until the 37th minute before being breached by a header from Savio, a player from the PSV academy. Less than a minute later, Marcos Leonardo capitalized on a mistake by the Dominican Republic goalkeeper to score from about 3 meters away.
In the second half, declining physical fitness meant their opponents could no longer keep up with the high-speed passing game of the Brazilian U20 team. Coach Ramon Menezes's squad comfortably dribbled the ball close to the penalty area and had plenty of time and space to make decisions.
Jean Pedroso, Giovane, Marlon Gomes, and Matheus Martins successively put their names on the scoreboard with easy close-range finishes, sealing a tennis-set victory for Brazil U20.
In the final matchday, the Brazilian U20 team will top the group if they defeat Nigeria. Even if they lose, the South American representatives still have a chance to advance through the qualifying spot for one of the best third-placed teams.
In the other match played at the same time, another South American representative also secured 3 points. Colombia U20 came from behind to beat Japan 2-1 and take the top spot in Group C.
