Bruno Fernandes has long been known for his passion for football, but recently his level of enthusiasm for the game has surprised even his Manchester United teammates.
According to The Telegraph , last month, the "Red Devils" players discovered Fernandes engrossed in watching a match in the Polish National Championship (Ekstraklasa) while the team waited for the train at the station, on the way to the away match.
Fernandes’ former team-mate Juan Mata once called him a “real football addict”. Since joining Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in February 2020 for an initial fee of £47m, Fernandes has not only made the most appearances in Europe (288 games, 24,474 minutes), but also leads the way in goals and chances created among midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues.

Bruno has made a strong impression since arriving at MU. |
Specifically, Fernandes scored 112 goals, surpassing Kevin De Bruyne (100 goals) and created 535 chances for his teammates, more than the "conductor" of Man City. In the 2024/25 season, he continued to prove his key role with 17 goals and 14 assists, despite the team having a disappointing campaign.
Early tomorrow morning (May 22), Fernandes will enter his fifth final in a MU shirt. The match against Tottenham in Bilbao is also an opportunity for him and his teammates to salvage a failed season, and at the same time forget the pain of falling to Villarreal on penalties, also in the Europa League final in 2021.
Even former United player Roy Keane, who has been critical of Fernandes, believes the Portuguese can make a difference: “Someone like Bruno can make a difference. The history of United is still there and Bruno can create miracles.”
Meanwhile, Fernandes' future at Old Trafford is in doubt, with journalist Ben Jacobs revealing that Al-Hilal are ready to pay up to £65m a season to take him to Saudi Arabia on a three-year deal.
