Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên02/11/2024

In recent days, the issue of school lunch quality has attracted much attention. Many people wonder, at a price of 35,000 - 40,000 VND, what kind of school lunch is considered delicious and reasonable?

Delicious and diverse dishes

Phan Thảo Anh, an 11th-grade student at Võ Văn Kiệt High School (District 8, Ho Chi Minh City), is satisfied with the quality of the school's lunch program, priced at 35,000 VND. “The menu is quite diverse, with five dishes each day for students to choose from. We can eat rice with savory dishes like braised pork with eggs, sweet and sour chicken... or noodle soups like beef noodle soup, chicken pho, or pork noodle soup…”, Thảo Anh said.

Le Truong Nhat Lam, an 11th-grade student at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (District 3), shared that she "prefers school lunches to home-cooked meals." The female student said that the school's lunch program offers many dishes such as char siu rice, fried chicken rice, Thai noodles, chicken noodles, stir-fried beef pasta, etc., priced from 35,000 to 40,000 VND. "I think this price is quite 'good value' because the portions are generous and suit my taste. However, to 'hunt' for dishes like Thai noodles, I have to go downstairs early because this dish is usually sold out by lunchtime," Lam shared.

Regarding the school lunch menu, Nguyen Vu Hong An, a student at Trung Vuong High School (District 1), said that each meal includes a main dish, stir-fried dish, soup, and dessert. “The menu changes weekly, so we rarely have to eat the same dishes repeatedly, and the portions are just right for me and the other girls. The boys, who have bigger appetites, can freely ask for extra rice and food,” the female student said.

"Students' opinions are very important."

Focusing on meal quality, the cafeteria at Vo Van Kiet High School has developed a lunch menu that prioritizes nutrition and minimizes repetition of dishes throughout the week. Understanding the psychology and preferences of young people, the cafeteria includes dishes such as vermicelli with tofu and shrimp paste, and Korean mixed rice in the menu.

Ms. Tran Le Hai Yen, manager of the canteen at Vo Van Kiet High School, said that despite market fluctuations, the canteen maintains the same prices and quality of meals for students. "The kitchen continues to maintain its supply of food, vegetables, as well as the quantity and portion sizes in each meal to ensure quality for the students," the manager shared.

To gather feedback on the school lunch program, the canteen at Vo Van Kiet High School has created an anonymous link for students to easily provide input. “Whenever we receive negative feedback about the canteen, I always handle it directly and ensure the problem doesn't recur. The school's management and teachers also regularly monitor the canteen to ensure the quality of meals for the students,” Ms. Hai Yen informed.

The vice principal of a high school in District 3 said that to monitor the quality of the canteen and kitchen, and ensure food safety and hygiene, the school needs to conduct regular inspections and supervision, and carefully control the origin of the food. The canteen needs to publicly display the list of food ingredients, their expiration dates, and ensure that staff undergo regular health checks.

"Gathering student feedback on meals is very important, as they are the ones who directly experience it. The school often organizes dialogues between students and the school administration to listen to their opinions and contributions. In addition, students can report issues directly to their homeroom teachers, who will then forward them to the school administration for resolution," the vice principal said.
