Shaw has been playing consistently well this season. |
Injuries have been a constant threat to Shaw since joining Manchester United a decade ago. In the 2023/24 season, the English defender missed much of the game, only returning to represent England at Euro 2024. Shortly afterwards, he suffered another injury during the 2024/25 preseason and has been unable to maintain consistency.
However, things changed completely in the 2025/26 season. Luke Shaw started every Premier League game regularly. To date, he has played a total of 1,916 minutes, more than the total number of minutes he played in the previous two seasons combined.
On average, Shaw played 87 minutes in each start and completed the full 90 minutes in 14 of his 22 matches. These are impressive numbers for any player, especially for someone who missed over 70 games in the last two seasons.

Manchester United's relatively easy fixture list this season is a key factor in helping Shaw maintain his pace. The Old Trafford side doesn't have to strain themselves across multiple fronts, having been eliminated early from domestic cup competitions and not participating in European competitions.
In addition, under manager Ruben Amorim, Shaw was deployed as a central defender, which significantly reduced his workload compared to his traditional full-back role.
However, new challenges are gradually emerging. Interim manager Michael Carrick's switch to a four-man defense system forces Shaw back to left-back, a position that demands greater physical fitness and the ability to seamlessly transition between attack and defense.
Furthermore, if MU return to European competition next season and Shaw is called up for the 2026 World Cup, the demanding schedule will be a major test of his fitness.
Shaw is enjoying a rare resurgence in his career, and the defender himself needs to work hard to maintain his current impressive form.
