The emotional stage is created from circus acts, puppetry, and lighting.
Before the show began, the atmosphere at the Phu Tho Circus and Multipurpose Performance Hall was already lively. Many children chattered excitedly with friends and relatives, eagerly guessing which characters would appear on stage. Some children continuously gazed towards the still-closed velvet curtain, anticipating the performance to begin. Parents also took the opportunity to learn more about the program.

The young audience members were excited before the performance. |
The murmurs in the auditorium subsided as the lights dimmed. All eyes turned to the stage. On the stage, streaks of colorful light moved rhythmically, interwoven with eye-catching visual effects and melodious music , opening a gateway for the audience into a dreamlike world.
With a running time of 70 minutes, "Dream Show" tells the story of a child's journey to adulthood. From their first sensations at the sight of light, color, and the world around them, the character gradually discovers themselves, learns to recognize their inner emotions, and nurtures their passion for art. As an adult and artist, the character continues to pursue their creative dreams, yearning to contribute works that can touch the emotions of the public. Through this, the performance conveys a message about the power of passion, the perseverance in pursuing dreams, and the love for art.
The performance chooses to tell its story through the language of circus, puppetry, physical art, music, and stage lighting. The joy, fear, curiosity, excitement, anger, and resentment of the characters are expressed through the artists' movements, the interaction between people and puppets, and the constantly changing layers of sound and light. Laser effects, cold smoke, and projected mapping images are used at opportune moments, contributing to many surprising moments for the audience.

The circus and puppet show "Dream Show" was well-received by a large audience. |
One of the highlights of the show is the puppet character, a child figure, who appears throughout the performance. Not only does the character play a role in the story, but it also acts as a companion, guiding the audience through various emotional moments. This character's image is inspired by the traditional Japanese puppet art of Bunraku, while also being adapted to suit contemporary theatrical language.
Despite being manipulated by three artists, the puppet character still comes across as lively as ever, with natural gestures and expressive emotions. Many young audience members attentively follow every movement of the character as if they were accompanying a close friend.

The performance made a strong impression on the audience in terms of scale and artistic merit. |
Besides the puppet show, the circus performances also left a strong impression. The spinning, rope swinging, and aerial acrobatics of circus artists Hien Phuoc and Thanh Hoa continuously received applause from the audience. The difficult technical movements were executed precisely, contributing to the emotional climax of the story.
The stage effects contribute to the play's appeal, constantly transforming with each segment. Moving patches of color and streaks of light fill the space, gradually giving way to images of the Southern Vietnamese countryside with its ponds, water hyacinths, water lilies, and familiar frogs. Combined with contemporary music inspired by Southern Vietnamese folk songs, the various art forms are harmoniously connected, allowing the story to be told seamlessly and emotionally.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Minh Anh (born in 1999, residing in Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) shared: “The performance was like a beautiful dream. I truly admire the artists who created such a visually stunning show. From the performance, sound, lighting to the staging, everything was meticulously invested in. This was a very memorable experience.”
Expectations to boost the cultural industry.
More than just an artistic performance, "Dream Show" holds special significance as the first large-scale production staged and performed at the Phu Tho Circus and Multipurpose Performing Arts Center. The program was implemented under the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, funded by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, and organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Arts Center, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Saigon - Gia Dinh officially being named after President Ho Chi Minh.
The performance was written by Tran Tri, with Duong Thao serving as the overall director. The circus director is artist Quoc Cong, who has made his mark through many contemporary circus programs recently. The puppetry is performed by sand painting artists Tri Duc and Thu Thuy.
Notably, the performance brings together nearly 150 artists and performers from various art organizations such as the Ho Chi Minh City Arts Center, the Vietnam Circus and Variety Arts College, the Ho Chi Minh City Cheerleading Team, the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Martial Arts Group, the Sun Dance Group, and the magic sphere performer Osama Halley. The combination of many art forms has created a unique character for the work on the contemporary stage.

People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, hopes that "Dream Show" will not only be a simple circus and puppet show but will also contribute to the development of the city's cultural industry, opening up a space for artists to continue creating, experimenting with new ideas, and bringing more diverse artistic experiences to the public. From there, it will bring unique and emotionally rich works of art to the audience and cultivate a love for circus and puppetry in particular, and a love for art in general, in the hearts of the public.
As the performance concluded, the prolonged applause and lingering gazes of many audience members partly demonstrated the appeal of "Dream Show." Beyond offering a world rich in emotion, the show also showcased the ability to harmoniously combine traditional performing arts with modern stage technology to create fresh cultural experiences for the public.
