Viettel has become the first mobile network operator in Vietnam to successfully combine 11 frequency bands on a real-world 5G SA network platform. The superior aspect of this solution lies in its advanced NR-DC (New Radio Dual Connectivity) and CA (Carrier Aggregation) band aggregation technologies. Instead of transmitting data on a single "lane" like conventional 5G networks, this technology allows for the "simultaneous combination of multiple lanes" so that data runs in parallel, maximizing total bandwidth. Viettel successfully combined 3 bands from the wide coverage C-band (3500MHz) and 8 bands from the high-speed mmWave (26GHz) to create a super-broadband transmission infrastructure. This is an unprecedented achievement for any network operator in Southeast Asia and represents the only way to achieve breakthrough mobile speeds, with no alternative solution available.

At the same time, Viettel has pioneered the application of edge data processing solutions, allowing user data to be processed instantly on-site instead of having to go through a roundabout route, minimizing latency and packet loss, paving the way for speeds exceeding 10Gbps.
The 5G Advanced network was tested by a team of engineers from Viettel Network Corporation, Ericsson, and MediaTek in collaboration on Viettel's existing commercial 5G infrastructure, combined with Ericsson's multi-band 5G gNodeB base stations and MediaTek's M90 chipset. This groundbreaking success clearly demonstrates Viettel's engineers' comprehensive control over the 5G network system, from the core network, transmission, radio, to end-user equipment. Notably, the 5G SA core network used in the test was not an isolated laboratory environment, but rather Viettel's actual commercially operational infrastructure nationwide.

The 10 Gbps result is a natural consequence, creating a solid foundation for the formation of an "ultra-high bandwidth digital infrastructure" to serve national digital transformation. This platform enables the instantaneous processing of massive amounts of data for real-time AI and Big Data, while completely eliminating lag to deliver a smooth augmented reality (AR/VR/XR) experience in telemedicine and digital education . Importantly, it also provides a basis for delivering ultra-stable connectivity to millions of smart devices, strongly driving the development of smart factories, automation systems, and high-tech industrial production.

Speaking about this milestone, Mr. Hoang Binh Son – Deputy General Director of Viettel Networks emphasized: " Viettel always maintains its self-reliance in the latest technologies to keep pace with the world 's development." The successful 10 Gbps test results provide a foundation for Viettel to continue deploying advanced solutions and building ultra-high-speed broadband digital infrastructure. We are ready to make telecommunications a driving force for automation and the strong development of the digital economy in Vietnam.”
Dr. Rita Mokbel – President and CEO of Ericsson Vietnam shared: "We are proud to partner with Viettel to achieve this impressive result. The 10 Gbps speed confirms the superior power of 5G technology in optimizing network performance and opening up new use cases. Ericsson is committed to continuing to work with Viettel to build a secure, scalable network infrastructure, contributing to promoting digital transformation and socio-economic development in Vietnam. The success of the 10 Gbps test demonstrates the breakthrough potential of 5G features such as NRDC, Carrier Aggregation, and advanced wireless technologies in enhancing data transmission speeds."

Vietnam encourages US businesses to expand investment in high technology. On the morning of June 26th, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung received Mr. Jeff Place, Supply Chain Director of Coherent Group (USA). During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam encourages US businesses to expand investment, especially in high-tech, innovation, and semiconductor industries. Dr. HC Hwang – General Manager of Wireless Communications Systems and Partnerships at MediaTek, commented: “Achieving 10 Gbps is a landmark milestone for 5G Advanced. The 10 Gbps result on the MediaTek M90 modem platform further affirms the capabilities of 5G Advanced and the new opportunities this technology opens up. This achievement further strengthens our belief in the value that 5G Advanced brings to real-world networks and demonstrates Viettel's ability to integrate advanced technologies across its entire network ecosystem.”
This event further affirms Viettel's leading position in the digital infrastructure race. By the end of 2025, with 30,000 5G base stations, Viettel will have covered 90% of the outdoor area nationwide. Entering 2026, the network operator plans to deploy approximately 20,000 more new 5G base stations, bringing the total cumulative number to a massive scale, aiming for 97% population coverage. Continuously pioneering and independently developing the latest telecommunications technologies is Viettel's commitment to delivering superior value to the people and creating new growth opportunities for the Vietnamese business community.
