Mr. Le Huy Anh, Deputy Director of the Intellectual Property Office - Ministry of Science and Technology (second from the right), presents the Certificate of Geographical Indication for Lam Dong Coffee to the local representative.
Lam Dong currently leads the country in both coffee acreage and production, with a total planted area of approximately 327,000 hectares, accounting for over 45% of the national coffee acreage. Production in 2025 is estimated to reach over 1 million tons, equivalent to 50.49% of the total national coffee production. Robusta and Arabica are the two main varieties, closely linked to the unique natural conditions of the highland region and becoming iconic products of the locality.
Mr. Nguyen Hoai Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Lam Dong province, said that the province's science and technology sector has for many years accompanied businesses, cooperatives, and farmers in preserving, developing, and improving the quality of local specialty products, especially coffee. According to him, the Geographical Indication certification is the result of decades of effort by scientists, businesses, and the farming community, who have persistently preserved and affirmed the Lam Dong coffee brand.
Along with other products already protected by geographical indications such as Binh Thuan dragon fruit, Phan Thiet fish sauce, and Dak Nong pepper, Lam Dong coffee has become the fourth product from the region to receive certification, further affirming the superior quality and unique value of local agricultural products.
According to the leaders of the Lam Dong Department of Science and Technology, in the coming time, the department will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies and the business community to effectively promote geographical indications; and at the same time build a production, processing, and consumption chain for coffee according to high-quality standards, aiming for sustainable export and increasing value for farmers.
