In Phu Tho, a 25-year-old woman gave birth to triplets naturally at 37 weeks of gestation, including a fraternal boy and two identical girls – a rare case.
On June 26th, Dr. Hoang Thi Chung, Head of Obstetrics Department 1 at Phu Tho Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, stated that this was a special case of triplets, as the mother naturally conceived one fraternal twin and two identical twins. The incidence of this case is extremely low, approximately 1 in 200,000 births.
This mother is pregnant for the first time, with one fraternal male fetus sharing a placenta and amniotic sac; and two identical female fetuses sharing two amniotic sacs and a placenta. Throughout the pregnancy, the mother's health has been stable.
The pregnant woman was admitted to the hospital at 36 weeks and 4 days of gestation, and the doctor decided to perform a cesarean section to ensure safety on June 25th. The first baby, a boy, was born weighing 2 kg, followed by a girl weighing 2.1 kg, and the third baby, also a girl, weighed 1.9 kg; all are healthy.

Dr. Chung advises women carrying multiple fetuses to pay close attention to their nutrition, as the nutritional needs of the fetuses double or triple compared to carrying a single fetus. Mothers need to supplement with more nutrients to reduce the risk of malnutrition for the babies, even after birth. Mothers also need plenty of rest, relaxation, and should avoid overworking to minimize the risk of pregnancy complications.
Pregnant women must have regular prenatal checkups and be closely monitored by doctors to assess fetal development and maternal health, in order to detect and address any abnormalities promptly.
