In Nghe An province , a 40 kg black carp with a belly diameter of 40 cm and a length of over one meter was pulled up from the Khe La dam in Tan Ky district by four fishermen working together.
On the evening of June 15th, Le Khanh Hoa , 29 years old, residing in Thai Hoa town, was fishing at Khe La dam, Phu Son commune, Tan Ky district. Seeing his rod shaking violently, he tried to pull it up but couldn't. "The fish was too big; I and three other anglers had to work together, and it took us several tens of minutes to bring it ashore," Hoa recounted.
Earlier, Hoa's group had spent six days fishing at the dam without catching a single fish. They are still freezing the fish and haven't sold them yet, even though many people have inquired about buying them.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Chairman of Phu Son commune, said this is the first time people have caught a 40 kg black carp at Khe La dam. A few years ago, someone caught one weighing 20-30 kg.
The Khe La dam covers 54 hectares, with a maximum depth of 20 meters, serving to irrigate hundreds of hectares of rice fields in Tan Ky district. The authorities are currently allowing a household to bid for the right to raise fish in cages at the dam and open a recreational fishing service.
The black carp, scientifically known as Mylopharyngodon piceus , belongs to the carp family and can grow up to 1.5 meters long and weigh 60 kg. They feed on snails and mollusks in rivers, ponds, and lakes. Black carp are usually three times more expensive than white carp, with large ones costing around 150,000 VND/kg.
