However, with proactive screening, early symptom detection, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, cancer is entirely preventable or treatable, according to the Hindustan Times (India).

Dr. Chandrashekhar Prasad Singh, an oncologist at HCG Abdur Razzaque Ansari Cancer Hospital (India), believes that early healthcare can help combat this disease.

The importance of early cancer detection

According to Singh, detecting cancer at an early stage increases the chances of a cure and prolongs the lives of patients.

He emphasized that regular health checkups and paying attention to any unusual changes in the body are the crucial first steps.

Screening tests such as mammograms, Pap smears, colonoscopies, or low-dose CT scans can detect lung cancer, helping to identify the disease even before the patient shows obvious symptoms.

In addition, self-examination is also essential. Everyone should pay attention to signs such as the appearance of unusual lumps, rapid and unexplained weight loss, persistent cough, constant fatigue, unusual changes in skin or moles. When these symptoms appear, seeing a doctor will help in early diagnosis and treatment.

Warning signs

According to doctors, there are several common symptoms often associated with cancer that people should not ignore.

These include the appearance of lumps anywhere on the body, unusual bleeding or bruising, difficulty swallowing or persistent indigestion, slow-healing sores in the mouth or on the skin, changes in bowel habits, and persistent pain with no apparent cause.

Early recognition of these signs opens up opportunities for accurate diagnosis and timely treatment, preventing the disease from progressing to a severe stage.

Ways to prevent the disease

Dr. Singh believes that avoiding tobacco in any form is the most important step because tobacco is a major contributor to cancer cases. He also recommends that everyone limit alcohol consumption to protect their health.

A healthy diet plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of disease. Therefore, daily menus should prioritize fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Maintaining a healthy weight will also help reduce the burden on the body and allow the immune system to function more effectively.

In addition, regular physical activity not only improves overall health but also helps reduce the risk of many types of cancer.

Regarding skin protection, Dr. Singh recommends that everyone should apply sunscreen when going outside and avoid prolonged exposure to strong sunlight to prevent skin cancer.

Mr. Singh also stated that some vaccines, such as HPV and hepatitis B vaccines, have proven effective in reducing the risk of certain types of cancer.
