The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has been pursuing coach Ancelotti for over a year. On May 2nd, ESPN reported that the CBF set a deadline for the Italian strategist to decide on his future. The main reason is that Real Madrid does not want to part ways with Ancelotti anytime soon, while the CBF wants to announce Ancelotti's appointment within May.
Ancelotti is the top candidate and is being targeted by the CBF to prepare for the 2026 World Cup campaign. However, Cafu does not approve of this move.
Speaking on ESPN , the legend said: "I would choose Rogerio Ceni or Renato Gaucho for the short term. Once the 2026 World Cup is over, they (the CBF) can make a decision. The federation needs to choose a coach to start the job immediately, so that the adoption and implementation of the goals happen naturally."
According to Cafu, the CBF is rushing things and could pay the price for appointing Ancelotti too soon. The Brazilian legend believes that Ancelotti's arrival at this time would leave him with very little time to familiarize himself with the squad and prepare for the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.
Cafu is a former pupil of Ancelotti at AC Milan. The two have a close relationship.
Cafu's views have sparked much debate. Some agree with the former defender that Brazil needs a coach who can build a long-term plan, rather than a stopgap solution. Others argue that Ancelotti is a world- class coach who can bring immediate success to the Brazilian national team.
Jorge Jesus (who recently parted ways with Al Hilal) and Abel Ferreira (Palmeiras) are other options considered by the CBF for the national team head coach position.
