Ngo Van Hieu carried Nguyen Tat Minh onto the stage to receive his diploma.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology, a school famous for its top training and competency assessment system in Vietnam, has just held the first graduation ceremony of 2025 for more than 3,000 new engineers and new bachelors. Ngo Van Tan - a former student majoring in Mathematics at Lam Son High School for the Gifted was honored to be chosen as the representative to give a speech.
This is not the first time a new graduate, a new engineer of Hanoi University of Science and Technology born in Thanh Hoa province has had this honor. But this is a very impressive face in terms of academic achievements and Tan's speech was sincere, simple and strong enough to touch many hearts.
Tan won the second prize in the National Mathematics Competition in the 2019-2020 school year, and now Tan has made a new achievement, graduating with honors in a major considered the most prestigious at an extremely prestigious school. That major is Computer Science.
But we will admire him even more if we know that Tan was born in the Quang Xuong sea, where words are likened to anchoring on the crest of the waves. Unstable and fragile. Tan's father was a worker, his mother worked in the market. But overcoming all that, they did everything they could to earn money to send their son to college.
In a place where studying is still difficult like Tan's hometown, graduating from high school is already an effort, let alone studying at a higher level. But since he was young, Tan still chose to go to Thanh Hoa city to study at the province's specialized school, accepting a life away from home to fulfill his dream of conquering Mathematics. Then in university, with many long years in the capital, there were many spending needs to be determined to conquer algorithms and computer programming.
At a school where every year thousands of students are forced to drop out, suspend their studies or do not meet the requirements to graduate on time like Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Tan graduated with honors one semester ahead of schedule. That alone is a great source of inspiration. Tan has determination, but behind him is an extraordinary effort from his parents.
Also taking place on the afternoon of May 10 at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology auditorium was another touching event. Nguyen Tat Minh, a young man from Trieu Son, Thanh Hoa, has a disability in both legs, but still has a burning dream of conquering the university lecture hall. More than 4 years ago, Minh was admitted to the Computer Science major at the University of Science and Technology and few people believed that he would graduate, because in that major, at that school, it would be difficult for a normal person to complete all the subjects, let alone someone who is not healthy enough like Minh.
But above all, Minh still graduated, even graduated with honors.
On the day Minh received his diploma, his close friend Ngo Van Hieu - who had carried Minh to school for many years during high school, despite studying far from the capital, was still there to once again carry his friend to the podium of glory.
The touching images from the graduation ceremony of Hanoi University of Science and Technology associated with two young men from Thanh Hoa have ended, but the echoes still remain. The touching stories and images of Ngo Van Tan, Nguyen Tat Minh and Ngo Van Hieu continue to convey a spirit of learning and spread kindness.
The learning spirit and kindness of the Thanh boys are continued and nurtured from the spirit and aspiration of Thanh. They are continuing the historical tradition of Thanh - the land of learning. In any circumstance, learning is always highly valued.
