Accordingly, the garbage collection point in the Thoi Nhut residential area (Tan An ward) has existed for more than 10 years. Residents in the surrounding area have suffered from the pungent stench and flies that swarm into their homes from the garbage collection point.
In addition, garbage transportation activities leave the roads in the area constantly muddy and dusty, forcing most families to keep their doors and windows closed.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Tien, Deputy Director of Do Duy Construction Co., Ltd. (the company operating the landfill in Thoi Nhut residential area), said that this landfill has been in continuous operation for more than 10 years. On average, 80-90 tons of waste are collected daily, then transported by specialized vehicles to the processing plant (EB Waste Treatment Plant).
"Operating the landfill in the residential area has caused a lot of trouble and inconvenience for nearby residents. Therefore, when the city planned to relocate this waste collection point, our company was very pleased," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Tien.

According to Mr. Ngo Thai Chan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, the unit has a plan and is implementing the complete relocation of the landfill before April 1, 2026.
Specifically, a portion of the waste previously collected at Thoi Nhut landfill will be transported directly to the waste treatment plant, while the remainder will be taken to a waste collection and transfer point in Long Tuyen ward (currently under construction).
Can Tho City also plans to invest in a new waste transfer station, ensuring environmental technical standards, near Hung Loi Bridge (Tan An Ward). This will contribute to ensuring environmental hygiene, creating urban aesthetics for the city, and not affecting the daily lives of residents.

Previously, from mid-July 2025, Can Tho City also removed the garbage collection point in front of Can Tho Traditional Medicine Hospital (30-4 Street, Tan An Ward), which had existed for many years.
Consequently, for many years, at this landfill, garbage and leachate have been regularly scattered onto the road, emitting foul odors and affecting the lives of residents and the operation of the hospital.

Mr. Tran Thanh Thanh, the owner of a food service business near Can Tho Traditional Medicine Hospital, said that previously, the area was littered with garbage, emitting foul odors, and causing great frustration among residents. For more than half a year now, the garbage collection unit has stopped bringing garbage here, resulting in clear sidewalks and clean streets.
