The People's Committee of Can Tho City has officially approved the task of preparing a 1/2,000 scale urban planning scheme for the tourism and resort urban area in the southern part of the city. This is considered the largest real estate project ever undertaken in the area, expected to create an architectural and economic highlight for the entire Mekong Delta region.
Population size: 300,000 people
According to the approval decision, the tourism and resort urban area project has a total area of nearly 3,000 hectares, located in the communes of Chau Thanh, Dong Phuoc, Phu Huu, and Thanh Hoa. The projected population of this area is approximately 300,000 people. The maximum time to complete the zoning plan is 9 months.

The project is oriented towards developing a modern urban model, serving as the southern growth hub of Can Tho . The planning aims to expand urban space while strongly promoting the shift in the local economic structure towards services and tourism.
Multipurpose resort and entertainment center
The urban area will be a combination of resort tourism and cultural, sports, and entertainment activities. The main components are planned to include: a water park, a multi-purpose sports center, a golf course, and an area for organizing events and festivals.
The People's Committee of Can Tho City has assigned the City's Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Project Management Board as the lead agency. This agency will coordinate with relevant departments and sectors to organize the planning process according to the set schedule.
The total projected investment is $6.2 billion.
Regarding the legal progress, this project was previously planned for implementation by the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province (formerly) in October 2024. The administrative procedures are expected to take place from August 2024 to August 2027. Prior to that, in November 2024, the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province also submitted a document to the Prime Minister seeking his opinion on the principle of establishing a detailed zoning plan.
With an estimated total investment of approximately 6.2 billion USD, the project is not only a key project for Can Tho but is also expected to become a unique tourist destination, contributing to enhancing the position of the Mekong Delta region on the international tourism map.
