Canada hasn't secured its first World Cup victory yet, but the 1-1 draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Toronto still holds special significance.
In their third appearance at the biggest football event on the planet, the co-hosts earned their first point. Previously, Canada lost all three matches at the 1986 World Cup and continued to go empty-handed in Qatar 2022.
The player who brought about this historic milestone was striker Cyle Larin. Coming on as a substitute in the 77th minute, the 31-year-old striker only needed about two minutes to equalize 1-1, after an assist from Promise David.

The stands erupted beneath the shadow of Toronto's iconic CN Tower, amidst a sea of red, including hockey star Connor McDavid and actor Ryan Reynolds, chanting in unison "Canada!".
This is only Canada's second goal in World Cup history. The first was scored by defender Alphonso Davies at Qatar 2022. This time, the Canadian captain was sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
Bosnia-Herzegovina opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Striker Jovo Lukic headed in a goal from a corner kick, starting in place of strikers Edin Dzeko and Haris Tabakovic.
Notably, it was also Lukac's first goal for the national team, in his fourth appearance.

Canada came very close to scoring before Larin's intervention. In the 54th minute, defender Richie Laryea's shot was blocked by defender Sead Kolasinac right on the goal line, and the ball then hit the crossbar.
After the first round of Group B, Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina both have 1 point. In the next round, co-hosts Canada will face Qatar at 5:00 AM on June 19th, while Bosnia-Herzegovina will play Switzerland at 2:00 AM on the same day.
In the final round of the group stage, Canada will face Switzerland at 2 AM on June 25th, while Bosnia-Herzegovina will play Qatar at the same time.
