On the afternoon of June 21st, a fire broke out in the pine forest area of Hamlet 1, Thien Nhan Commune, under extremely harsh weather conditions. Prolonged hot weather, high temperatures, low humidity, and strong southwest winds caused the flames to spread rapidly, at times erupting fiercely and posing significant challenges to firefighting efforts.
Throughout the night, more than 500 officers, soldiers, and civilians from various forces divided into multiple teams to fight the fire. In the blazing red flames amidst the mountains and forests, the forces cleared undergrowth, created firebreaks, and used on-site firefighting equipment to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring forest areas.

Facing the risk of the fire spreading further, on the morning of June 22nd, Comrade Vo Trong Hai, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, personally went to the scene to direct firefighting efforts, requesting all forces to concentrate their efforts and implement comprehensive solutions to ensure the safety of the people and protect the forest area.
Comrade Vo Trong Hai requested increased manpower and resources for firefighting efforts. Local Party committees and authorities should uphold the "four on-the-spot" principle, mobilize maximum resources, and strive to completely extinguish the fire as quickly as possible. If necessary, request support from the 324th Division, Military Region 4, to completely control the fire.

During the day, the Nghe An Provincial Military Command deployed an additional 60 officers and soldiers from Regiment 764 to participate in firefighting efforts. Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Xuan Lam, Commander of Regiment 764, said: “The unit proactively surveyed the scene, coordinated with other forces, organized flexible movements between points, combined with opening firebreaks, clearing undergrowth, and organizing fire suppression, gradually controlling the fire and making the utmost effort to prevent it from spreading.”
According to observations at the scene, the fire occurred in an area of shrubs interspersed with pine plantations, spreading from Thien Nhan commune to Van An commune. The mountainous terrain, with many layers of dry undergrowth, combined with hot weather and strong winds, made firefighting efforts very difficult. At times, the flames rose high, smoke covered the forest area, and the forces had to both fight the fire and ensure safety during the operation.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Hai Son, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Defense Command of Zone 1 - Van An (Nghe An Provincial Military Command), said: “Upon receiving the information, we mobilized forces from neighboring communes in the area, and at the same time reported and arranged for reinforcements. From the evening of June 21 to nearly noon on June 22, the participating forces coordinated very actively and effectively.”
Given the complex nature of the fire, the armed forces of Nghe An province, along with forest rangers and local forces, organized into multiple teams with flexible and effective plans. One team focused on creating firebreaks, isolating and dividing the burning area; other teams approached the fire to extinguish it, preventing it from spreading to forest areas and residential areas below.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Van An commune, shared: "More than 1,000 people, including the people, officials, and soldiers of the armed forces, coordinated very smoothly, demonstrating decisive involvement, a sense of responsibility, and the close relationship between the military and the people in firefighting and forest protection."
Amidst the scorching sun, with outdoor temperatures reaching nearly 40°C, the green uniforms of officers and soldiers remain present on the front lines of the firefighting effort on the slopes of Thien Nhan Mountain. Sweat mixes with dust and smoke as the soldiers tirelessly traverse the forest, clearing undergrowth, creating firebreaks, and approaching each burning spot. As night falls, their flashlight beams pierce through the thick smoke, and they continue to hold their ground, determined to protect the forest and ensure peace for the people.
By late afternoon on June 22nd, the major fires were largely under control. However, due to strong southwest winds and high temperatures, some areas were at risk of reigniting. Forces continued to remain on the scene, expanding firebreaks, conducting patrols, and thoroughly extinguishing any smoldering fires.
