Unseasonal rains are widespread in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Southern Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Station, the main cause of this weather phenomenon is the weakening and gradual eastward movement of the cold air mass, combined with upper-level wind convergence over the Southern region. The interaction of these weather patterns creates conditions for strong convective cloud development, causing localized thunderstorms and lightning in the late afternoon and evening in some areas.

Forecasts indicate that in the coming hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, potentially causing thunderstorms with lightning in some areas such as Binh Loi, Tan Nhut, Vinh Loc, Tan Vinh Loc communes and surrounding areas. Rainfall will generally range from 5 to 15 mm, with some places receiving over 20 mm.

On March 7th, the Southern region will be cloudy with sunny periods during the day, and scattered thunderstorms are possible in the evening and night, with light winds. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind; residents should take precautions.

The forecast for this afternoon and evening indicates scattered thunderstorms in the southeastern region and some provinces such as Dong Thap, An Giang , and Ca Mau, with localized moderate rain. However, these phenomena are expected to gradually decrease towards late evening.

The lowest temperatures in Southern Vietnam generally range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius, while the highest temperatures fluctuate between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 33 degrees Celsius.

Besides weather conditions, according to IQAir's AirVisual air quality monitoring app, the air quality in Ho Chi Minh City today is at level 66, which is considered average, but still 3.4 times higher than the WHO recommendation, potentially affecting sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, and people with respiratory illnesses.

In the sea area from Khanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City, the northeast wind is at level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7-8; the sea is rough with waves 2-4 meters high. Ships operating in this area need to be wary of the risk of being affected by strong winds and high waves.

Over the next 2-7 days, the continental cold high pressure system is expected to continue strengthening southward, potentially intensifying around March 9-10. At higher altitudes, the subtropical high pressure system will remain weak, while the upper-level wind convergence zone will temporarily weaken but is likely to become active again around March 11-12.
