Flash flood and landslide warnings issued for 10 provinces in Northern Vietnam.

At noon on May 21st, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) released information on rainfall developments and warned of the risk of flash floods and landslides in many provinces in the Northern region.

According to the latest weather report from the meteorological agency, over the past 24 hours, many provinces in the Northern region have experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving very heavy rain.

Some stations recorded high rainfall amounts, such as: Ninh Lai 174.4mm (Tuyen Quang); Quan Chu 172.4mm (Thai Nguyen); Mau Son 152.6mm ( Lang Son ); Quang Ha 164.8mm (Quang Ninh)...

Soil moisture models indicate that some areas in these provinces are near saturation (above 85%), or have reached saturation.

The meteorological and hydrological agency warns that in the next 3-6 hours, the Northern region will continue to experience rain, with accumulated rainfall generally ranging from 10-30mm, and exceeding 50mm in some areas; specifically, Quang Ninh will receive 20-50mm.

Over the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes in many communes and wards across 10 provinces: Lai Chau, Son La, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, and Bac Ninh .

The meteorological and hydrological agency recommends that local authorities pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to take measures to prevent and respond to flash floods and landslides.
