Peak period for pest and disease control in the spring rice crop.

Currently, the spring rice crop is in the late tillering - heading stage and six types of pests have appeared: brown planthopper and white-backed planthopper, stem borer, blast disease, bacterial blight, small leaf roller, and rats. The peak period for these pests and diseases is from April 15th to May 15th, with an estimated infected area of ​​4,000-5,000 hectares; the area requiring control measures is 2,000-3,000 hectares.

Officials from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development guide farmers on how to identify brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers that damage rice plants, so they can take appropriate control measures.

To proactively prevent and control pests and diseases, ensuring a successful spring crop, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced peak periods for rice pest outbreaks; coordinated with localities to strengthen field inspections, detect pests and diseases early to take timely, safe, and effective measures to prevent the spread of pests and diseases; and conducted supplementary pest and disease surveys to specifically determine the area, scale, acreage, and severity of damage caused by each pest and disease.

In addition, the Sub-Department guides farmers to apply several measures to prevent and control harmful pests and diseases such as removing egg clusters, cutting off withered stem borer branches, and removing leaves affected by brown spot disease in the fields; using biological, herbal, low-toxicity, and specific pesticides to spray when pest density and disease rates reach control thresholds, ensuring the principle of "4 correct - correct pesticide, correct time, correct concentration and dosage, and correct method".
