Phase 1 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project has a total length of over 188 km, passing through An Giang and Can Tho provinces. This is a key national infrastructure project, expected to create a strong impetus for socio -economic development in the Mekong Delta region.
The section passing through An Giang province is 57 km long, with a total investment of VND 13,526 billion, comprising 4 packages numbered 42, 43, 44, and 45. As of October 9th, the total progress of the 4 main construction packages reached 61.53%, exceeding the schedule by 0.03%.
Specifically, package number 42, from km0+314 to km17+240, with a total length of approximately 17 km, is being constructed by Truong Son contractor and has reached 59.28% of the plan, exceeding the schedule by 0.72%. Currently, Truong Son contractor is accelerating the construction of the first layer of crushed stone base on the entire expressway, with a length of 2 km from the intersection with National Highway 91, the connecting branches N1 and N2 to National Highway 91, to km2+00. This is the first section of the expressway project intersecting with National Highway 91, located in Vinh Te ward, An Giang province.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Dai, Director of the Truong Son 11 Project Management Board (Truong Son Construction Corporation), said that Truong Son Construction Corporation was the first contractor in the project to carry out the construction of the crushed stone base for the road. The laying of the crushed stone base marks a significant milestone, confirming that the project's construction progress is on schedule after months of focusing on land clearance and addressing weak soil conditions.
“From now until November 20th, the Truong Son contractor will complete the four-layer crushed stone base course from the intersection of National Highway 91 to Km2+00, including the connecting branches N1 and N2 with National Highway 91. It is expected that on November 25th, asphalt paving will begin on this 2 km section and the connecting branches N1 and N2 with National Highway 91, as committed to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee,” Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Dai stated. According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Dai, it is expected that on December 19th, the Truong Son contractor will open the two connecting branches N1 and N2 with National Highway 91 and the 2 km asphalt paving from the intersection of National Highway 91 to Km2+00. The remaining sections, approximately 17 km long, will be constructed by the Truong Son contractor and will be opened to traffic on a crushed stone base course.

Currently, at the construction site of the first section of the expressway interchange with National Highway 91 (in Vinh Te ward), the Truong Son contractor is mobilizing all available specialized construction equipment such as stone spreaders, vibratory rollers, water tankers, etc., to lay, level, and compact the crushed stone base layer, ensuring adherence to technical procedures and the set schedule. Simultaneously, Truong Son has mobilized over 200 workers and 79 pieces of construction equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, and internal earth transport vehicles, to expedite the construction of the remaining sections. The contractor is also urgently stockpiling sand and stone at the construction site for roadbed load testing; constructing weak soil treatment items; building underpasses; and manufacturing median barrier components.
Currently, the four expressway construction packages in An Giang province are progressing quite steadily. Packages 42, 44, and 45 are ahead of schedule by 0.03% to 1.02%. For packages 43, 44, and 45, contractors are also actively carrying out construction work such as sand filling, roadbed compaction for the main and branch lines at interchanges, soil stabilization, production of median barrier components, and production of barbed wire fences, all at a stable pace.
As of October 8th, sand suppliers have provided over 6.93 million cubic meters of sand to the expressway project in An Giang province out of a total of 9.32 million cubic meters needed for the project, not including the volume for resettlement areas, access roads for local residents, and the Km38 interchange… Currently, the supply of stone materials for the expressway project in An Giang province is approximately 494,888 cubic meters out of a total demand of over 1.17 million cubic meters.
In order to ensure the construction progress of component 1 of the expressway project through An Giang province in accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister and the Provincial People's Committee, the An Giang Provincial Project Management Board also requested relevant departments and agencies to continue advising and proposing to the Provincial People's Committee to consider allocating additional sources of sand and stone with appropriate and timely exploitation capacity to meet the material needs for construction, minimizing the impact on the overall progress of the project.
