In football, it's not uncommon for brothers to pursue careers as players. But for two people to enter the World Cup wearing the jerseys of two different national teams always creates a special story.
Attacking midfielder Desire Doue plays for the French national team, while his older brother Guela Doue represents Ivory Coast. Growing up under the same roof, they chose two different paths when stepping onto the biggest stage in world football.

Both were born in Angers, France, to Ivorian fathers and French mothers. They both joined the Rennes academy at a young age, sharing many years on the training pitch before their careers diverged.
Right-back Guela Doue, born in 2002, is three years older than his younger brother. The Strasbourg player stands out for his physical fitness, tackling ability, and tireless attacking and defensive contributions.
Guela Doue was called up to the Ivory Coast national team for the first time for two friendly matches against Benin and Uruguay in March 2024. He subsequently scored the winning goal, helping the West African team beat Uruguay 2-1.

Desire Doue was born in 2005 but has developed much faster in his career. After leaving Rennes to join PSG in 2024, this attacking midfielder quickly became one of the most notable young talents in French football.
Desire Doue's dribbling ability, quick changes of direction in tight spaces, and daring ball control make him a game-changer in the attacking zone. He can play on the wing, cut inside, or operate behind the central striker.
The 21-year-old midfielder will make his debut for the French national team in March 2025 in a match against Croatia. A year later, he scored a brace in a 3-1 victory over Colombia, sending a strong signal ahead of coach Didier Deschamps finalizing the squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Desire Doue once described the close relationship between the two brothers as like that of twins. However, their family backgrounds and opportunities for development at the national team level led them to two different paths.
More specifically, before the start of the 2026 World Cup, the Doue brothers could face each other directly when France meets Ivory Coast in a friendly match on June 4th. For the Doue family, that would be a very special encounter.
If they both play in North America, Desire and Guela will become the third pair of brothers to play for two different national teams at a World Cup.
Before them, Jerome Boateng played for Germany and Kevin-Prince Boateng represented Ghana. More recently, Nico Williams chose Spain, while his brother Inaki Williams played for Ghana.
At the 2026 World Cup, France will be in Group I along with Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. Ivory Coast, returning to the tournament after a 12-year absence, will be in Group E with Germany, Ecuador, and Curacao.
