Hansi Flick has faced much criticism. Photo: Reuters . |
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport , Capello argued that Flick had made tactical mistakes. He analyzed: “Simone Inzaghi made the right decisions and took advantage of crucial moments, while Flick was too arrogant. He continued with his man-marking style of play without realizing that the situation required more caution.”
The Italian coach emphasized that tactical errors cost Barcelona dearly. The Catalan team led Inter Milan 3-2 until the final minutes of injury time in the second half, before Francesco Acerbi equalized with a close-range tap-in. Defender Ronald Araujo made a mistake by failing to contain Acerbi.
Legendary player Rivaldo also agreed with Capello. He said: "It was a painful and hard-to-swallow defeat. Barcelona made small and irreparable mistakes. You can't concede goals like that in a Champions League semi-final."
Besides criticizing Flick, Capello also praised Luis Enrique's coaching abilities, as he led PSG to the Champions League final.
“Luis Enrique is a very talented coach. He has built the team based on his football philosophy and created a truly effective team structure. Enrique's team is very balanced. They may not be physically strong, but they possess excellent speed and tactical thinking in midfield,” Capello commented.
Barcelona will face Real Madrid in El Clásico in La Liga on May 11th. Flick's team still has a strong chance of winning the domestic league title this year.
