The Hung Duc Bridge, with a total investment of over 1,200 billion VND, is located on the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section of the North-South expressway, spanning nearly 4.1 km across the Lam River. Construction is being expedited, with the bridge sections expected to be joined on March 10th and completed in early May.

The project includes a total of 31 road bridges, of which 23 are on the main route and 8 are overpasses. The Hung Duc Bridge is nearly 4.1 km long, making it the longest bridge on the North-South Expressway section between Dien Chau and Bai Vot.

The Hung Duc Bridge is designed to be 17.5 meters wide, with 4 lanes and a rigid median divider, with a design speed of 80 km/h.

Construction of the bridge began in May 2022 and was carried out by a consortium of contractors including Dai Hiep Co., Ltd., Thai Yen Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, Hoa Hiep Co., Ltd., and Cienco 4 Group Joint Stock Company.

According to observations by Dan Viet reporters, construction units are currently concentrating maximum machinery and manpower on the Hung Duc bridge construction site to ensure completion by early May. The bridge has a large design and complex structure, requiring many workers to maintain high levels of concentration.

Workers are focusing on cleaning the bridge surface to prepare for the next stages of construction.

Mr. Tran Dinh Phong (from Thai Yen Company) said: "Despite the scorching sun and the sweat-drenched atmosphere, everyone encouraged each other to work hard to ensure the project progresses on schedule."

Some workers take advantage of the shadows cast by the large steel blocks to help them work.

According to the project's representative, the most difficult part of constructing the Hung Duc bridge is the process of pouring concrete for the bridge abutments in the riverbed. Because the Lam River is deep and has high water levels, if construction is not completed on schedule, the rising floodwaters will significantly impact the work.

Supplies, materials, machinery... are all transported by river. Currently, the contractor has to mobilize modern machinery and large barges to serve the project in the best possible way.

Engineer Nguyen Quang Trung, the project manager for the Hung Duc Bridge (Cienco 4 Group), said: "The unit responsible for construction from abutment M0 to pier T13 has now completed the bridge deck and cantilevered casting from piers T1 to T13, and is currently casting the railings and median strips. Sections T15, T16, and T14 are nearing completion of the connection points and may be joined in the next few days." Photo: PV

Only two connection points remain to be completed, and the final joining can take place in the next few days.

The bridge girder's interior is designed with several access points for inspecting the bridge's electrical wiring during use.

The most challenging part was constructing the bored piles and the piers in the middle of the river, which had to be done quickly to avoid flooding. Each pier has 20 piles, with a depth of over 50 meters. Currently, many bridge spans have been connected, and the project volume has reached 92-95%.
