Singaporean midfielder Kyoga Nakamura, naturalized from Japan, returned to play and scored a beautiful goal in the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup, but could not help his team avoid defeat, missing the chance to reach the final against the Vietnamese team.

When the final whistle of the match between Vietnam and Singapore at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) sounded, naturalized midfielder Kyoga Nakamura of Singapore covered his face, burst into tears, and collapsed on the field.

He missed the first leg at home after picking up two yellow cards in the group stage. In the return leg, the midfielder played with ease, linking well with Singapore's midfield. Midfielder Kyoga Nakamura became a Singapore citizen in October, after being persuaded by coach Ogura. The two previously worked together at Japanese club JEF United Chiba.

With limited height (1m65), Kyoga Nakamura is limited in disputes and passes the ball quickly. He possesses good tactical vision of a typical Japanese player.

Nakamura was born in Japan in 1996 and played for his home country at the FIFA U17 World Cup. At club level, Nakamura played mainly in J-League 2 and 3, before moving to Singapore to play for Albirex Niigata in 2019 and now plays for Tampines Rovers, a top Singaporean team.

In the 74th minute, the midfielder with the number scored to reduce the score to 1-2 with a beautiful left-footed shot from about 25 meters away. Goalkeeper Dinh Trieu dived but could not save the goal.

However, Singapore's efforts were paid for by two fouls in the penalty area by the defenders. Xuan Son and Tien Linh scored in turn to end the match. In the end, in the two semi-finals, Vietnam beat Singapore 5-1.
