Sesko scored a brace in Manchester United's 2-2 draw against Burnley. |
Manchester United concluded their trip to Turf Moor with a 2-2 draw against hosts Burnley in the 21st round of the Premier League, but the focus after the match wasn't on the scoreline. Attention was on Benjamin Sesko, who unexpectedly shone brightly in the team's first game under interim manager Darren Fletcher.
This was MU's first match since Ruben Amorim was sacked on January 5th. While the club was still searching for a long-term head coach, Fletcher was given the temporary role and quickly made his mark, at least in the way he exploited the attacking line.
Sesko, who had been a disappointment under Amorim, scored two goals against Burnley. The Slovenian striker played energetically, moving widely and frequently appearing in key areas in front of the opponent's goal. This was a rare sight for him in the preceding months.
Last summer, Manchester United spent £236 million to rebuild their squad, with a new attacking line-up including Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Sesko. While Cunha and Mbeumo quickly adapted and made their mark at Old Trafford, Sesko struggled to find his place in the team.

Sesko is a new signing for MU in the 2025/26 season. |
Before the Burnley match, Sesko had only scored two goals in 17 appearances under Amorim. That number was doubled in just one game, enough to ignite debate among Manchester United fans.
On social media platform X, many opinions suggest that the problem doesn't lie with Sesko's ability. "Amorim's tactics almost made everyone believe Sesko was a bad player," one fan wrote. Another sarcastically remarked: "It's amazing how well Sesko plays if you actually give him a chance to shoot."
Of course, one match isn't enough to guarantee the future. But in the context of Manchester United's current crisis of confidence, Sesko's performance suggests that the problem might lie more in player selection than in the player himself.
For Darren Fletcher, it was a rare positive sign during a turbulent transition period at Old Trafford. For Sesko, it could be the start of the opportunity he's been waiting for for months.
