Silva left Man City at the end of the season. |
This information was indirectly confirmed after Man City's 4-0 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup. Assistant coach Pep Lijnders, who replaced Pep Guardiola in charge of the match, admitted Silva's departure was inevitable: "Every beautiful story has an end."
Joining Man City in 2017, the Portuguese midfielder became one of the club's biggest icons. In nine seasons, he won six Premier League titles and one Champions League title, playing a key role in the team's glorious era of success.
"You can't replace a player like Bernardo, simply because there's no one like him. The way he controls the game, moves, receives the ball, and makes decisions is all on a special level," the Dutch strategist emphasized.
Man City will therefore not be looking for a replica, but rather aiming to restructure the squad, combining current players with young talents from the academy. However, Lijnders also admitted that the void left by Silva will be significant, especially considering his influence throughout the season.
For his part, Silva has expressed his desire to end his career at Benfica. When he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2026, he has attracted interest from Barcelona, although no offer has yet been made by either side.
Silva's departure marks the end of an icon in Manchester City's golden era.
