OpenAI CEO uses ChatGPT to raise children.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said ChatGPT helped him raise his young children, and described a situation where the chatbot helped reassure him during a time of anxiety about fatherhood.

In a conversation with Jimmy Fallon on NBC's The Tonight Show on December 9th, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admitted that ChatGPT has helped him manage his life as a true father.

"I can't imagine going through the process of learning how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT. Obviously, people have been doing it for a long time and without any problems," Altman shared.

The CEO of OpenAI also added that he felt "a little bad" having to ask a technology with such vast knowledge base simple questions, such as: "Why did my child stop throwing pizza on the floor and laughing?"

Another example Altman recounted was a few months ago, at a party, while chatting with someone who also had a young child. The OpenAI co-founder recalled that the parent said their 6-month-old baby was "crawling everywhere."

Altman immediately felt anxious that his son wasn't at that developmental stage. "I ran to the bathroom and thought to myself, 'Do I need to take him to the doctor tomorrow morning?'" the CEO recounted what he typed into ChatGPT to ask.

Altman then described how OpenAI's chatbot responded "with a fantastic answer," reassuring him that his son's development was "perfectly normal."

"It was personalized, like ChatGPT knew you. It knew I was the CEO of OpenAI, surrounded by high achievers, and didn't want me to impose that on my child, like, 'You should relax, everything will be fine,'" Altman recounted to Fallon about ChatGPT's response.

Altman and software engineer Oliver Mulherin married in January 2024 in a private ceremony. The couple lives in San Francisco and keeps their private lives quite discreet. In February 2025, Altman announced that their child had been born earlier than expected.

"Welcome to the world , little one!", Altman wrote, accompanied by a photo of a baby's tiny hand grasping an adult's finger.
