Proactive food sourcing
Babeeni Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Gia Loc) is one of the few businesses in the province that is largely self-sufficient in supplying clean food for its employees. Instead of sourcing from outside suppliers, the company allocates a large plot of land for growing vegetables, building chicken and duck farms, and fish ponds. The entire area is managed and cared for daily by a group of workers.
According to Mr. Doan Manh Hung, Chairman of the Trade Union of Babeeni Vietnam Co., Ltd., the company always wants each meal for its employees to not only be filling and nutritious but also safe and of high quality. Therefore, the company's leadership pays close attention to the origin of the food. In the agricultural area, green vegetables are grown seasonally to ensure freshness and quality. As for chicken, duck, and fish, the company purchases them in large quantities from reputable suppliers. They are then raised using traditional methods for 2-3 months before being processed for employees. From this local food source, the company can independently source about 80% of the ingredients needed to serve 700 meals per day.

Not only are the meals at Babeeni Vietnam Co., Ltd. clean and safe, but their nutritional value also surpasses that of many other businesses in the province. For many years, the company has consistently maintained a meal value of 37,000 - 42,000 VND per serving for its employees. On special occasions, the value of the meal can increase two to three times. The daily menu is also carefully adjusted by the company according to the seasons and employee feedback. Thanks to this, the health of the staff and workers is ensured, maintaining production and business operations.
"The fact that businesses take care of everything from the vegetable garden to the fish and chicken to ensure a clean food supply for their workers is something we deeply appreciate. For workers, the canteen meal is the main source of energy to maintain their health, productivity, and contribute to the value of the business. I hope that many businesses in the province will continue to pay attention to and improve canteen meals for their workers," said worker Do Thi Nguyet.
Instead of hiring external catering services, Taya Vietnam Wire and Cable Joint Stock Company (Cam Giang) has established its own kitchen team to strictly manage the quality of meals for its employees. Every day, the Trade Union Executive Committee, in coordination with the Administrative Department, inspects and monitors the procurement, storage, and processing of food. The company is determined to prevent contaminated or unidentifiable food from entering the canteen. Thanks to this effective management, the company has not experienced any food poisoning incidents for many years.

Mr. Phan Quang Trung, Chairman of the Trade Union of Taya Vietnam Wire and Cable Joint Stock Company, said: "Over the years, the company has continuously improved the quality and portion sizes of meals to meet the needs of its employees. To ensure safety, imported food is processed and used on the same day. As a result, the meals not only ensure adequate nutrition but also create a delicious and palatable experience."
Strengthen inspection and supervision.
In early June, the Thanh Mien District Health Department coordinated inspections of food safety and hygiene at several businesses in the district. At Shints BVT Co., Ltd. in Tu Cuong commune (Thanh Mien), the inspection team monitored the canteen meals according to a three-step process: before food preparation, during preparation, and before consumption. The inspection revealed that the company imports food with clear origins and sources. Food samples are stored and preserved strictly according to regulations. The kitchen and dining areas are well-organized and kept clean.

A representative from Shints BVT Co., Ltd., located in Tu Cuong commune, stated that the company employs approximately 1,000 workers. Over the years, the company has rigorously monitored and inspected the quality of meals. To ensure food safety and hygiene, the company only imports ingredients from reputable suppliers with complete invoices proving their origin. Ingredients are thoroughly inspected before processing; substandard products are not used, and food is not left out for longer than the original date. Daily, medical staff are responsible for preserving and storing food samples according to regulations and are ready for testing when necessary. This is one of the solutions that helps the company proactively control risks and provides peace of mind for its employees.
In recent times, the Provincial Labor Union has proactively guided all levels of trade unions to organize negotiations and dialogues with employers to include meal allowances in collective labor agreements. Alongside this, inspection and monitoring of food safety and hygiene at enterprises have been effectively implemented; and surveys on employee satisfaction with the quality of meal allowances have also been intensified.
As a result, every year about 80% of businesses with trade unions sign collective labor agreements, with many units committing to providing meal allowances for union members and workers ranging from 18,000 to 30,000 VND.
Notably, in recent years, no cases of food poisoning have been recorded in the collective canteens of enterprises with trade unions in the province. This shows that the awareness and responsibility of enterprises are increasingly improving in caring for the lives and protecting the rights of workers; at the same time, it affirms the important role of trade unions in monitoring and managing the quality of canteen meals.
