Many practical activities
In early June, the small house of sisters Nguyen Thi Hong and Nguyen Thi Thuy in Mau Cong village, Lac Phuong commune, was filled with joy when officials from the Women's Association of the Command of Defense Zone 3 - Le Thanh Nghi - visited and presented gifts on International Children's Day, June 1st. Seeing their "Godmothers" arrive, Hong and Thuy happily ran out to greet them, much to everyone's emotion.
Orphaned at a young age, Hong and Thuy are living with their maternal grandfather, who is over 70 years old. He is a war veteran with poor health, and the family faces many difficulties.
Since 2022, Hong and Thuy have been sponsored by the Women's Association of the former Hai Duong Provincial Military Command under the "Godmother" program. After the administrative boundary consolidation, even though the locality where the two girls live is no longer under their direct responsibility, the Women's Association of the Regional Defense Command 3 - Le Thanh Nghi continues to provide each girl with 500,000 VND per month.
Agencies and units within the armed forces of Hai Phong city are sponsoring six orphaned children, providing support ranging from 500,000 VND to 1.5 million VND per month. Although the material value is not large, it serves as a source of encouragement, giving the children more support in life.
Over the years, the City Military Command has consistently identified the effective implementation of the military's rear-area support policy as a crucial political task, reflecting the national tradition of "remembering the source when drinking water" and "repaying gratitude." Therefore, the work of caring for policy beneficiaries, families of wounded soldiers and martyrs, and those who have contributed to the revolution has been implemented comprehensively and regularly.
Agencies and units within the city's armed forces maintain activities such as visiting and giving gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and soldiers in difficult circumstances during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year); organizing incense offerings and candle-lighting ceremonies at martyrs' cemeteries; supporting the construction and repair of houses of gratitude; and presenting savings accounts to disadvantaged families. Many humane models such as "Savings Box Following the Example of Uncle Ho," "Godmother," and "Helping Children Go to School" are effectively maintained, creating resources to support poor students and children with special circumstances.
In 2025, the city's armed forces will work together to demolish 61 temporary and dilapidated houses; build 12 "Great Solidarity" houses, "Comradeship" houses, "Borderland Shelter" houses, and houses for disadvantaged young people enlisting in the army, with a total cost of over 1.7 billion VND and more than 5,000 man-days of labor.
Along with activities aimed at improving the lives of the people, the work of resolving entitlements and policies for meritorious individuals and military personnel has been implemented seriously and promptly. In particular, Hai Phong has been selected as a pilot area by Military Region 3 for the task of searching for, collecting, and identifying the remains of fallen soldiers. Relevant agencies have intensified efforts to collect samples of fallen soldiers' remains for DNA testing at cemeteries throughout the area, gradually giving families more opportunities to find information about their loved ones who sacrificed their lives for the Fatherland.
The close, inseparable bond between the military and the people.

The armed forces of Hai Phong city are stepping up their civilian outreach activities, contributing to strengthening the close and inseparable bond between the army and the people.
The movements "Upholding traditions, contributing talents, worthy of Uncle Ho's soldiers," "Volunteer Saturday," and "Green Sunday" have been widely implemented among members and young people in the armed forces. Many activities related to environmental sanitation, rural development, disaster relief, and support for impoverished households are regularly organized, attracting a large number of officers and soldiers to participate.
The program "Spring on the Border, Tet on the Islands, Deepening the Bond Between Soldiers and Civilians" continues to be maintained and has become a highlight in civilian affairs work. Through this program, during the Lunar New Year of 2026, the city's armed forces organized visits and encouraged the families of officers and soldiers serving in Truong Sa, the DK1 platform, the border, islands, and the HQ-184 submarine of Hai Phong, with a total expenditure of over 4.7 billion VND. These heartfelt gifts from the home front are a great source of moral support, helping officers and soldiers to work with peace of mind and stand firm on the front lines of the Fatherland.
Military agencies, in coordination with youth organizations at all levels, implement numerous programs to support young people who have completed their military service in finding employment and stabilizing their lives after discharge. At the same time, they organize visits, gift-giving, and house construction for new recruits from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them to focus on their studies and training in the military.
Colonel Vu Kim Thang, Deputy Political Commissar of the City Military Command, emphasized that through practical, concrete, and humane actions, the city's armed forces are continuing to uphold the fine traditions of the Vietnam People's Army, contributing to building a strong national defense system.
