Comprehensive healthcare for women

To ensure the right to access comprehensive healthcare services, the relevant agencies in the province consistently maintain effective communication, counseling, and reproductive health and family planning services.

In November 2025, Bai Chay Hospital successfully performed laparoscopic surgery to remove a "giant" ovarian tumor (equivalent to a 5-month-old pregnancy) from patient D.T. H (37 years old, Bai Chay ward), who had a history of regular menstruation without menstrual irregularities. Approximately 3-4 days before admission, the patient noticed unusually rapid abdominal enlargement and lower abdominal pain. Upon examination at the hospital, doctors discovered a mass in the lower abdomen at the level of the navel, with clear boundaries, limited mobility, and tenderness upon palpation. Ultrasound and abdominal CT scans revealed a large cystic mass in the pelvic region measuring 12.8 x 15 cm. After consultation with obstetric specialists, the doctors diagnosed a large pelvic tumor, suspected to be a left ovarian cyst.

Dr. Nguyen Van Manh, Deputy Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department (Bai Chay Hospital), said: Large ovarian tumors in the pelvic region, if not surgically treated, can cause many dangerous complications. The growing tumor makes the patient feel heavy in the abdomen, compressing abdominal organs such as the bladder, rectum, large intestine, and stomach… causing symptoms such as frequent urination, persistent constipation, poor appetite, and compression of the heart and lungs causing chest pain and shortness of breath… affecting the patient's health and quality of life. If a large tumor ruptures due to impact or trauma, it can cause abdominal bleeding, leading to peritonitis, abdominal infection, and life-threatening conditions.

With its advantages of being minimally invasive, safe, and highly effective, laparoscopic surgery for large ovarian tumors helps patients avoid dangerous complications, reduce post-operative pain, minimize scarring, and recover quickly. Importantly, it preserves the ovaries and maintains fertility for young patients.

This successful laparoscopic surgery further affirms the hospital's team of doctors and medical staff's ability to skillfully apply advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques in treating complex gynecological diseases, such as ovarian tumors and uterine fibroids.

To improve the quality of reproductive health care, the Population Sub-Department (Department of Health ) is promoting communication and focusing on strengthening and improving the network of reproductive health and family planning services. The provincial health sector is continuously investing in upgrading facilities and modern medical equipment; supplying contraceptives and essential medicines to ensure that reproductive health and family planning services are provided safely, effectively, and with high quality.

Through various investment resources, the reproductive health care network in the province has been strengthened from the provincial to the commune level. All regional general hospitals have reproductive health care departments. Commune and ward health stations all have doctors, medical assistants, and midwives specializing in obstetrics, and have obstetric clinics with basic equipment to meet the needs of the people. The obstetrics departments of provincial and grassroots hospitals are equipped with modern equipment to support reproductive health care, such as color Doppler ultrasound, transvaginal ultrasound, and surgical systems for treating reproductive health-related diseases.

Some hospitals have successfully implemented most advanced, advanced techniques with high effectiveness, such as: In-vitro fertilization (IVF); hypothermia in the treatment of hypoxic-enhanced encephalopathy (HIE); continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT); extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO); neonatal resuscitation before and after surgery; treatment and care of premature and extremely premature infants from 25 weeks of gestation, with very low birth weight from 500 grams…

To maintain the stability of reproductive health care activities, in the coming period, functional agencies in the province will continue to implement activities to raise people's awareness of reproductive health care, contributing to the successful achievement of goals related to improving the health of pregnant women, improving the reproductive health of youth and adolescents, basically eliminating unsafe abortions, and fully meeting the needs of population and family planning in the current period.
