VHO - On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Hoi An being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage (December 4, 1999 - December 4, 2025), the "Touching the Heritage" journey at 4 thematic museums in Hoi An ancient town brought visitors special experiences.

Tourists join the thematic tour "Journey of experience - Touching heritage"

The program is part of a series of activities to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23), affirming Hoi An's role as a world creative heritage city.

Each museum in this journey has helped visitors gain a deeper understanding of traditional crafts, lifestyles and ancient Hoi An culture, providing real-life experiences where everyone can immerse themselves and be creative in the vibrant heritage space of Hoi An.

Living heritage space

The journey took visitors to explore 4 famous museums located in the heart of Hoi An ancient town: Museum of Traditional Medicine, Museum of Folk Culture, Museum of Trade Ceramics and Museum of Local Products. Not only simply looking and listening, visitors were able to "touch the heritage" in a very unique way, thereby understanding more deeply about Hoi An - the creative heritage city of the world.

Each museum space brings a story, a piece of old memory, helping visitors experience a journey through diverse activities, interacting and immersing themselves in a space that recreates ancient life, traditional occupations such as pottery making, medicine, folk games and enjoying local gifts, all of which evoke many new emotions.

At each destination, visitors will be immersed in the space of life in the old town, connecting in different ways to better understand the cultural activities, traditional occupations, and lifestyle of Hoi An past and present, opening up in many diverse dimensions.

At the Museum of Traditional Medicine, visitors will "touch" the "breath of medicinal herbs" through interesting experiences such as herbal foot baths, pulse taking, tea tasting... This is an opportunity for visitors to enter the world of traditional medicine, participate in activities to explore folk knowledge in the lives of Hoi An people.

The journey "Living like the ancients" at the Folk Culture Museum allows visitors to participate in activities such as calligraphy, folk games of chess, village umbrellas, making banh thuan... Hoi An space with ancient lifestyles is vividly recreated, helping visitors relive the peaceful, simple days of the past.

At the Local Products Museum, visitors will immerse themselves in the “Soul of the Countryside in Every Product” through the old market, try making coconut jam and enjoy local specialties. This is an opportunity to feel the rustic, close spirit of rural life.

At the Museum of Trade Ceramics, visitors will “touch” the story of traditional crafts through the theme “Earth and Fire: A Thousand-Year Story”, try being a potter and enjoy creations from baked clay. The story of earth and fire associated with traditional pottery making will be told, inviting visitors to participate and thereby learn more about the ceramic trade route of the commercial port of Hoi An.

Promoting the value of thematic museums

The series of events “Touching the Heritage” is an invitation for every visitor not only to see, but also to feel, live and love Hoi An in a profound way. This is a special highlight in the activities to celebrate the 26th anniversary of Hoi An being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage. The journey of more than two decades has been recognized by the international community as a proud milestone, proving the perseverance in preserving and promoting the cultural values, architecture and lifestyle of Hoi An through many generations.

With this journey, Hoi An continues to affirm the value of a creative heritage city through diverse and authentic experiences, opening up opportunities for visitors to explore, observe, immerse themselves, interact and create. Each destination is a door for visitors to "touch" the history, culture and life of Hoi An ancient and modern.

For more than a quarter of a century, the local community, artisans and cultural workers have continuously preserved and restored the heritage, breathing new life into each space. This journey continues to affirm the unique value of Hoi An on the world heritage map and in the hearts of every visitor. The program is also a thank you to the community and those who always accompany the heritage.

Jeff Harris and his group of friends from Australia were very excited to experience the journey of exploring the museums. Spending 7 days here, they said they would come back to continue to explore many interesting stories about Hoi An through the artifacts, displayed images and experience activities at the museums.

The “Touching Heritage” journey has also connected thematic museums in the old town, promoting the value and closely connecting museums and relics in the cultural life of the community. Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Center focuses on establishing and connecting in a thematic direction to promote the value and meaning of each museum, creating a continuous tour route, bringing visitors diverse cultural experiences.

In addition, Hoi An constantly invests in upgrading and innovating display methods, combining short-term, long-term, static and dynamic, using digital technology , integrating with interaction and experience, building green tourism destinations... These activities contribute to attracting many types of tourists, connecting heritage with the community and increasing interaction with the public.
