According to Mr. Tri, the device is specifically designed for livestock farming, integrating GPS positioning and a 4G SIM card, allowing for the location of livestock even in hilly areas and dense forests. Each device is neatly attached to the cow's neck with a specialized strap, which is waterproof, impact-resistant, and operates stably in rain, sun, and mud. "All the cow's movement data is transmitted to the phone via a pre-installed application. I no longer need to search for each cow individually like before," Mr. Tri said. The special feature of the system is that it not only shows the cow's location but also saves its movement history so that farmers can track it when needed. In addition, the "electronic fence" feature allows users to demarcate grazing areas. When a cow goes outside the established boundary, the phone will immediately send a warning signal.
The method, seemingly simple, demonstrates a new mindset among farmers in embracing digital technology. From relying entirely on experience and manual labor, livestock farming now has an added "smart assistant." Mr. Nguyen Cong Khanh, an official from the Economic Department of Nam Hai Lang commune, assessed this as an innovative model suitable for local conditions. According to Mr. Khanh, the effectiveness lies not only in saving labor but also in improving livestock management. "The model helps prevent cattle from straying or damaging crops – a problem that previously caused considerable inconvenience. The authorities also find it easier to manage livestock farming," Mr. Khanh commented.
Furthermore, the application of GPS in livestock farming opens up possibilities for statistically tracking herd sizes, monitoring diseases, and building livestock management databases. With smartphones in the hands of farmers in the hilly regions, the story of digital transformation is no longer a distant dream. It is present right on the cattle pastures, where technology is gradually changing the traditional farming methods of rural Quang Tri .
