On the afternoon of September 29th, Mr. Cao Xuan Diep, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Hai commune (Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province), confirmed that a 10-day-old newborn baby in the commune was suspected of being bitten by a rat, sustaining facial injuries and requiring hospitalization.
Images of a newborn baby with facial injuries have been shared on social media.
According to the family, on the afternoon of September 27th, the mother left her 10-day-old newborn baby on the bed in the room and went outside. A few minutes later, when she returned, she was horrified to find her child's face covered in wounds.
"Earlier that morning, the family discovered a rat in the bedroom. They tried to kill it but failed, so they suspected their child had been bitten on the face by the rat. The family suspected that the newborn might have smelled of milk, which attracted the rat," Mr. Diep informed, adding that it's possible that due to heavy rain and flooding in many areas over the past few days, rats have entered the house.
After discovering their child was injured, the family took the baby to the commune's health station for first aid. Later, the baby was transferred to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for examination and treatment.
Reportedly, the child had numerous scratches on his face and legs. Particularly concerning was a large, bleeding wound around his eye.
Information about this unusual incident was quickly shared by several people who posted images and details of the event to warn others with young children to take precautions to avoid similar situations.
