What is the maximum fine for speeding cars and motorbikes?

According to the latest Road Traffic Law, the maximum penalty for speeding drivers is a fine of up to 12 million VND and a driver's license revocation of up to 4 months.

Specifically, driving cars and motorbikes at a speed exceeding the prescribed speed limit is a prohibited act in Clause 11, Article 8 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law. Violations will be punished according to regulations.

According to Decree 100/2019/ND-CP (amended in Decree 123/2021/ND-CP), the penalty for speeding is prescribed as follows.

Fines for speeding cars

Fines from VND 800,000 to VND 1 million for drivers exceeding the prescribed speed limit from 5km/h to under 10km/h (applying Point a, Clause 3, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP).

Fines from 4 to 6 million VND for drivers exceeding the prescribed speed limit from 10km/h to 20km/h (applying Point I, Clause 5, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP amended at Point d, Clause 34, Article 2 of Decree 123/2021/ND-CP).

For this violation, the driver will also have his/her driving license revoked for 1-3 months (Point b, Clause 11, Article 5, Decree 100/2019/ND-CP).

Fines from 6 to 8 million VND for drivers exceeding the prescribed speed limit by more than 20km/h to 35km/h (Point a, Clause 6, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP).

For this violation, the driver will also have his/her driving license revoked for 2-4 months (Point c, Clause 11, Article 5, Decree 100/2019/ND-CP).

A fine of 10 - 12 million VND will be imposed on drivers who exceed the speed limit by more than 35km/h, the highest level in the administrative penalty framework (Point c, Clause 7, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP).

In particular, for this violation, the driver will also have his/her driving license revoked for 2-4 months (Point c, Clause 11, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP).

Fines for speeding on motorbikes

A fine of 300,000 - 400,000 VND shall be imposed on drivers exceeding the prescribed speed limit by 5km/h to less than 10km/h (Point c, Clause 2, Article 6 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP (amended at Point k, Clause 34, Article 2 of Decree 123/2021/ND-CP).

Fines from VND 800,000 - 1 million for drivers exceeding the prescribed speed limit from 10km/h to 20km/h (Point a, Clause 4, Article 6 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP (amended at Point g, Clause 34, Article 2 of Decree 123/2021/ND-CP).

Fine from 4 - 5 million VND for drivers driving over the prescribed speed limit by more than 20km/h (Point a, Clause 7, Article 6 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP).

In addition, the driver of the violating vehicle will also have his/her driving license revoked for 2-4 months (Point c, Clause 10, Article 6 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP).
