According to information in the Telegraph on January 27th, when asked whether Britain would spend more on defense to maintain good relations with the US, British Deputy Defence Minister Luke Pollard said that the government is determined to spend more on defense.
Mr. Pollard also stated that the cost of preventing war is less expensive than waging war. That is why London continues to support the conflict in Ukraine and ensures that Britain prioritizes its defense policy with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to deter the risk of attack against itself and its allies.
In the autumn budget announced in October 2024, the UK's defense budget increased by £2.9 billion (equivalent to $3.62 billion), and the roadmap to spend 2.5% of GDP on defense will be announced in the spring budget next March.
In April 2024, speaking at a meeting with then-NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a military base in Poland, then-British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also emphasized that the country's defense spending would increase by £75 billion over six years to boost ammunition production, making Britain the second-largest defense spender in the military alliance.
