Speaking about his new responsibilities, the striker born in 1997 expressed his honor and happiness at receiving the trust of the coaching staff and his teammates.
“When I was playing in the youth teams in Brazil , I was the captain. But this is the first time I’ve been entrusted with a role in the leadership team of the Vietnamese national team. Honestly, I’m very happy,” Xuan Son shared.
The Vietnamese national team striker affirmed that the vice-captain's armband does not create pressure, but rather motivates him to work harder in training and matches.
"I'm used to pressure. Being part of the leadership team of the Vietnamese national team is a privilege for me. This is something very special. I will try my best to help the team," Xuan Son said.
Aiming to defend the ASEAN Cup title, Nguyen Xuan Son emphasized that the collective good always takes precedence over any individual achievement.
"I always want to score goals and aim for the top scorer title. But if I'm the top scorer and the team doesn't win the championship, it doesn't mean much. The most important thing is still the championship trophy. I want to help the team successfully defend this title."
After a long period of injury treatment, Xuan Son said he is gradually regaining his best form and is confident in aiming for future goals.
"I've just returned from a serious injury, so I need more time to reach my best form. Currently, I feel very fit and will try my best to score goals, provide assists, and fulfill the requirements set by the coaching staff."
In addition, Xuan Son also sent words of encouragement to captain Do Duy Manh , who is currently recovering from injury.
“I hope Duy Mạnh will return soon. He is a very important player for the national team and also a close friend of mine. I hope he continues to work hard so that he can return to playing with the whole team soon,” Xuân Son said.
Evaluating the new recruits in this training camp, the Brazilian-born striker had high praise for Ngo Dang Khoa and believes that the young player will quickly adapt to the national team environment.
“Dang Khoa is a quality player with many good qualities. I hope he will contribute a lot to the national team, and I will also try to help him integrate quickly with the whole team,” Xuan Son said.
Regarding Nguyen Tai Loc, Xuan Son believes his teammate deserved a chance after years of proving his abilities in the V.League.
"Tai Loc has worked very hard to get to where he is today. He has played in Vietnam for many years and fully deserves to be on the national team."
"We will help him integrate quickly so he can contribute to the team," the Vietnamese national team's main striker affirmed.

Regarding the competition for a spot in the attacking line, Xuan Son stated that he always respects all decisions made by coach Kim Sang-sik and focuses only on doing his job well.
"The team has many quality players. My job is to play, score goals, and help the whole team. The selection of the lineup is the head coach's decision."
According to the plan, the Vietnamese national team will continue training in Hanoi until July 1st before traveling to South Korea for a training camp from July 2nd to 14th.
During this period, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will play three friendly matches to assess their squad, refine their playing style, and ensure the best possible preparation before embarking on their campaign to defend their ASEAN Cup title in 2026.
