In the third round of the men's team event at the 2024 Chess Olympiad, the Vietnamese chess team decided to field their strongest lineup, including Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Tuan Minh, and Tran Tuan Minh, to compete against the Kazakhstan team.

Sitting at board number 1, world number 14 Le Quang Liem (elo 2741) proved his role as the "leading player" by defeating Denis Makhnev (elo 2551). At board number 2, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (elo 2633) drew with Kazybek Nogerbek (elo 2519). On board number 3, Le Tuan Minh (elo 2564) shared points with Alisher Suleymenov (elo 2484), and at board number 4, Tran Tuan Minh (elo 2434) brilliantly defeated Ramazan Zhamakhnov (elo 2497).
The result secured a 3-1 victory for the Vietnamese men's chess team against Kazakhstan. This propelled Le Quang Liem and his teammates to a joint 4th place ranking after 3 rounds, level with the Chinese team. A major challenge awaits Le Quang Liem and his teammates when they face the 4th seeded team, Uzbekistan, in the 4th round tonight (September 14th).

In the women's team event, the Vietnamese team also fielded a strong lineup including Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Vo Thi Kim Phung, Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong, and Le Thanh Tu, securing a dominant 4-0 victory against Singapore. This result propelled the Vietnamese women's chess team to 11th place in the rankings after 3 rounds. Thao Nguyen and her teammates will face Armenia in the 4th round.
