TPO - The slow receding floodwaters have left many rice paddies in My Luong commune (Chuong My district, Hanoi ) still submerged. To minimize damage, dozens of officers and soldiers from the Missile Regiment of Division 361 have gone to the fields to help the people harvest the rice.

In Chuong My, rice fields are completely flooded, and soldiers are wading through the water to help the locals harvest the rice.

Due to the remnants of Typhoon No. 3, the Bui River's water level rose, causing severe flooding in the fields of My Luong commune (Chuong My district, Hanoi).

Due to its low-lying terrain and location along the Bui River, floodwaters recede slowly in many areas of Chuong My district, averaging only about 10 cm per day, leaving entire rice fields submerged.

By September 23rd, the water had receded by about one meter from its peak, and people were wading through waist-deep water to harvest young rice plants in an attempt to minimize damage.

The fields of Khon Duy village, My Luong commune, have been submerged for the past two weeks. Many residents say that this is only the second time since 1971 that the Bui River has risen so high.

Speaking to a reporter from Tien Phong newspaper, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Dinh Thinh, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 64/Division 361/Air Defense - Air Force, stationed in Dong Son commune, Chuong My district, said: "In fulfilling the task of coordinating with the Chuong My district military command to overcome the damage caused by typhoon No. 3, Regiment 64 has sent 50 officers and soldiers to the commune to help people harvest rice."

Despite the rainy weather and the fact that many rice fields were flooded to a depth of over 1 meter, soldiers of the 64th Regiment/361st Division/Air Defense - Air Force Command still deployed to harvest rice to help the people.

"The fields were completely flooded, forcing my family to harvest the unripe rice to salvage whatever we could. With the help of the soldiers, we're trying to finish harvesting today; if we wait any longer, we'll lose everything," Mr. Tam Thieu shared.

"My family owns a total of one acre of rice paddies, but there are only my wife and I living here. My wife is often ill, and our children have married and moved far away. Luckily, the soldiers helped us harvest the rice," Mr. Thieu added.

Even though they knew the yield would be low, they still had to harvest it, otherwise the rice grains would sprout.

Taking advantage of the lull in the rain today, people are rushing back to the fields to harvest and move the unripe rice they've just salvaged ashore. Having been submerged in floodwaters for over ten days and harvested prematurely, the rice is only suitable as animal feed.
